What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote ASIC RTL Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote ASIC RTL Design Engineer, you need a solid background in digital design, computer engineering, and hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools such as Synopsys, Cadence, or Mentor Graphics, as well as experience with simulation, synthesis, and version control systems, is crucial. Strong problem-solving, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure accurate, efficient design cycles and effective collaboration across distributed teams, leading to successful chip delivery.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote ASIC RTL Design Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote ASIC RTL Design Engineers often face challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams across different time zones and ensuring effective communication during complex design phases. To address these issues, it’s important to establish clear documentation practices, utilize collaboration tools like version control and video conferencing, and schedule regular check-ins with team members. Additionally, staying proactive in seeking feedback and clarifying design specifications helps ensure alignment and reduces misunderstandings. Building strong virtual relationships with verification and backend teams can also streamline the handoff process and overall project flow.

What is a Remote ASIC RTL Design Engineer?

A Remote ASIC RTL Design Engineer is a professional who specializes in designing the Register Transfer Level (RTL) code for Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) while working remotely. Their main responsibilities include creating and verifying digital circuit designs using hardware description languages such as Verilog or VHDL. These engineers collaborate with hardware teams to ensure functionality, performance, and power requirements are met, all while operating from a location outside of a traditional office setting. They often use remote collaboration tools and simulation software to review and validate designs before fabrication.

Job description

Department: Design & Engineering
Location: Alpharetta, GA (Hybrid/On-site) Remote applications will be considered
Reports to: Managing Principal
About the Role
We are looking for a highly technical and client-facing Technology Design Project Manager to join our team.
In this role, you will be the architectural lead and primary technical contact for our clients. You will listen to their needs, engineer comprehensive low-voltage solutions (AV, Security, Structured Cabling), and document those requirements. A critical component of this role is acting as the bridge between our clients and our drafting team-scoping the work, delegating the heavy CAD/Revit production, and performing QA/QC before final delivery.
If you are an experienced engineer who loves solving client problems, knows your way around Bluebeam, and wants to leverage the team to scale your output, we want to talk to you.
Key Responsibilities

  • Client Consultation & Scoping: Lead technical discovery meetings with clients, architects, and general contractors to gather requirements for structured cabling, audiovisual, and physical security systems.
  • System Engineering: Design and engineer integrated technology solutions that meet client specifications, industry standards, and budget requirements.
  • Documentation & Markups: Utilize Bluebeam Revu extensively to document technology requirements, create takeoffs, and generate clear markups for the drafting team.
  • Team Coordination: Package scopes of work and delegate drafting and documentation tasks to our dedicated production team..
  • QA/QC & Hands-On Drafting: Review the CAD and Revit outputs from the production team for accuracy and standard compliance. You must be proficient enough in AutoCAD and Revit to jump into the files, make necessary redline changes, and finalize drawing sets when speed is required.
  • Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee the design phase of the project from initial concept through 100% Construction Documents, ensuring timelines and margins are maintained.
  • Construction Administration Activities: Manage the firm's response to RFIs, submittal reviews, oversee documenting of design clarifications just prior to or during construction, visit the project site and prepare a summary report of observations.
What We Are Looking For
  • Industry Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in technology design, engineering, or project management specifically focused on Low Voltage, Structured Cabling, Audiovisual, and/or Electronic Security systems.
  • Technical Software Proficiency: Strong, hands-on experience with Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, and Revit. You don't need to be a full-time drafter, but you must be able to navigate, edit, and review complex models and drawing sets.
  • Engineering Acumen: Deep understanding of construction processes, architectural floor plans, RCPs, and MEP coordination.
  • Delegation & Leadership: Experience working with, delegating to, or managing drafting teams is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Exceptional client-facing skills. You must be able to translate complex technical jargon into clear business value for stakeholders.
Why Join Us?
This is a high-leverage role where you aren't just grinding out drawings all day. You will act as the "brain" of the operation-engineering the solutions and managing the client relationship-while leveraging our production resources to handle the heavy production lifting. It's an opportunity to scale your impact, lead high-profile projects, and grow within a rapidly integrating organization.
***Studies show that many people hesitate to apply for jobs unless they meet every desired qualification. At ASD, we are committed to fostering an authentic workplace. If you are enthusiastic about this role but your experience doesn't perfectly match every desired qualification listed, we strongly encourage you to apply anyway-you might be exactly the candidate we are looking for!

  • 15 days of PTO in your first two years and more with tenure
  • Family 1st motto and belief
  • Promotions and room for growth within
