Southeast Asian Development Center's (SEADC) mission is to foster a healthy, thriving, and self-sufficient Southeast Asian American community.
Founded in 1977 in San Francisco's Tenderloin District, the Southeast Asian Development Center, formerly Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to lifting children, youth, and families from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam out of poverty. Our services are structured around providing low income and vulnerable Southeast Asian Americans with basic needs and skills critical to building successful futures. Summary of Position: The Licensed Therapist provides clinically and culturally competent mental health services to youth and adults at the Southeast Asian Development Center. The Licensed Therapist conducts psych-assessments, prepares intervention and treatment plans, and provides short-term individual and group therapy.
This position requires strong independent judgment and discretion, as well as the ability to proactively assess and evaluate SEADC clients' mental health needs and identify situations requiring higher levels of care or intervention. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of behavioral health services and/or health prevention strategies aimed at improving health outcomes for Southeast Asian American communities. The role also requires demonstrated expertise in evidence-based psychotherapy and behavioral change interventions, with experience delivering culturally responsive, person-centered care.
The Licensed Therapist reports to the Director of Programs.
This position is fully remote.
About Community & Wellness
The objective of this function area is to promote community wellness and health through active community engagement, culturally relevant activities, workshops, and events. It provides resources and supports a collaborative of four organizations through the Southeast Asian Mental Health Initiative. The function area prioritizes cultural competency and delivers culturally responsive programming that reflects and celebrates the community's diverse identities.
Position Title: Licensed Therapist
Compensation: $150 per hour, Nonexempt; Part Time, expected hours of work up to 4 hours per week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Client Services (85%)
  • Remotely provide clinically and culturally competent short-term individual and/or group counseling services to SEADC youth, families, adults, and older adults.
  • Conduct screenings, intakes and initial assessments of clients; employ culturally competent practices that build strong rapport.
  • Conduct mental health treatment plans to identify client needs and goals and engage in continuous clinical documentation towards goals.
  • Identify and respond to crisis situations, including risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Ensure clients receive high-quality, ethical mental health services in accordance with all applicable legal, ethical, state, and Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) guidelines.
  • Facilitate a community wellness and healing workshop/event in virtual or in-person formats, adapting delivery to budget and participant needs.

Administrative Duties (15%)
  • Collect and document client and service information in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain organized and accurate client case files and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations, funder requirements, and all applicable state and agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate Salesforce data entry and reporting, including documentation and reporting required by SEADC and external funder portals.
  • Collaborate with the Project Coordinator to case plan for referrals and services outside of client's mental health needs. This includes linkage to internal and external community resources to assist clients with achieving their goals.
  • Coordinate care with schools, healthcare providers, and social service agencies when applicable.
  • Lead and facilitate the Southeast Asian Clinicians Network (SEACN), supporting engagement and collaboration initiatives.

Qualifications
Education
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Social Work from an accredited college or university
  • Maintain active licensure and meet all continuing education requirements
  • Licensed as an LMFT/MFCC/LPCC/LCSW in California
  • Adhere to state, BBS, funder, and agency policies and procedures
  • Uphold ethical standards as outlined by professional licensing boards

Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience working with children, youth, adults, older adults, and/or families from culturally diverse backgrounds and low-income neighborhoods
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge in short-term and preventative counseling, case management, and linkage for diverse communities
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Clinical expertise to effectively assess, coordinate, implement, and evaluate all services required to meet the needs of the client
  • Familiarity with privacy, health, and safety laws
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Adept at navigating different technologies:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
    • Experience with data entry and CRM systems, preferably Salesforce
    • Familiarity with project management platforms and online communications platforms such as Teams
    • Must have adaptability to adopt new software and technologies and participate in the development of such systems by providing feedback

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bilingual spoken language proficiency in an Asian or Southeast Asian language, especially Khmer, Lao, Thai, or Vietnamese
  • Combination of education and clinical experience related to behavioral health issues related to immigration, migration, and other social issues faced by the Southeast Asian community
  • Knowledge and self-awareness of issues of race, class, and ethnicity
  • Cultural responsiveness, competence, and humility in therapeutic settings
  • Listening and interview skills to explore patient needs and administer treatment plans
  • Oral communication skills to counsel and advise patients
