Job description

WHY DEPT®?
We are a Growth Invention company built to help the world's most ambitious brands grow faster. Operating at the intersection of technology and marketing, we create what is next by pioneering ideas, acting fast, and moving further because standing still just is not in our DNA.
We are drawn to people who stay curious, move with intent, and never stop inventing. Our culture runs on three values: better together, relentlessly curious, and get sh*t done. It is how we work, how we grow, and how we make things that matter.
At DEPT®, you will find the freedom to explore, the space to collaborate, and the trust to make a real impact for our clients, for each other, and for the world we are helping to build.
THE ROLE:
THE ROLE: We are looking for an Art Director of In-Store Experience who is a "player-coach"-a hands-on creative lead who thrives at the intersection of brand storytelling and physical environments. You will not just manage the work; you will be the lead designer defining how our brands live in the real world.
You will partner with design leadership to build world-class brand expressions, shifting the focus from pure architecture to visual storytelling and product-focused experiences. You think in systems and can advance a store's visual language while maintaining a robust design system. You are a tastemaker capable of guiding a team to produce work that is aesthetically pioneering and executed with high-velocity "sprint" agility.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Lead from the front: Act as a hands-on leader who sketches, designs, and prototypes alongside the team.
  • Visual Storytelling: Define the aesthetic anchor for in-store experiences, focusing on environmental graphics, signage, and product-focused storytelling elements.
  • High-Velocity Execution: Drive complex retail projects and ad-hoc campaign requests from kick-off to completion within fast-moving timelines.
  • Client Partnership: Build unwavering trust with high-level clients, presenting creative strategies with clarity and managing relationships independently.
  • Systems Thinking: Evolve and maintain a store's visual language and design systems to ensure consistency across all touchpoints.

WHAT YOU BRING:
  • 7+ years of proven experience in Art Direction or Environmental Design, with a portfolio showing a balanced "Mix" (25% - 50% Retail) alongside branding or product design.
  • Expertise in Visual Design: Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite and Figma is essential. Proficiency in 3D visualization tools (e.g., SketchUp or Blender) is required for conceptualizing spaces.
  • Storytelling Focus: A proven ability to translate brand narratives into tangible physical touchpoints.
  • PST Availability: Must be fully available during Pacific Standard Time (PST) hours to support our West Coast clients and ad-hoc sprint needs.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?
  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • 401K plan, plus matching
  • PTO
  • Paid Company Holidays
  • Parental Leave

WE SUPPORT YOU BEING YOU:

We are a B Corp-certified company passionate about purpose-driven work. Our hope is that you can feel good about the contributions DEPT® is making to the world and we always have an open door for your ideas in making the world a better place.
