Job description

Appearance Attorney (Contract)

Based in Los Angeles, BD&J is Californiaโ€™s leading personal injury law firm, having recovered over $3 billion for our clients. We are currently seeking a Contract Appearance Attorney to assist with Minorโ€™s Compromise hearings throughout California.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking for flexible contract work while gaining meaningful courtroom experience. The attorney will focus exclusively on representing the firm at hearings, without the responsibility of managing a traditional litigation caseload.

The ideal candidate is confident in the courtroom, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling appearances independently. You will work alongside an experienced attorney and a dedicated Minorโ€™s Compromise team who will prepare petitions, coordinate with clients, and ensure each matter is ready for hearing.

This is a remote, contract-based opportunity with compensation provided on an hourly basis for approved work and appearances.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Represent BD&J at Minorโ€™s Compromise hearings
  • Review petitions and supporting documentation prepared by the Minorโ€™s Compromise team prior to appearances
  • Coordinate with supervising attorneys to ensure hearings are properly prepared
  • Communicate hearing outcomes, court directives, and next steps to the litigation team
  • Provide professional and effective client representation during court proceedings
  • Maintain accurate case documentation in compliance with firm standards
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to ensure matters move efficiently through the approval process
  • Stay current on California laws, court rules, and procedures related to Minorโ€™s Compromise matters
Skills & Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active California Bar license in good standing
  • 2+ years of civil litigation experience required
  • Personal injury experience preferred but not required
  • Strong oral advocacy and courtroom presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
  • Strong attention to detail and professionalism

At BD&J, we have a clear vision: to be the place where a diverse mix of talented people want to come, stay, and do their best work. We pride ourselves on bringing the best results to our clients and know our company runs on the hard work and dedication of our passionate and creative employees.

BD&J is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

BD&J is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer dedicated to a policy of compliance with all federal, state, and local laws regarding nondiscrimination in employment. No questions included in our application process are intended to secure information to be used for unlawful purposes.

Consistent with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), applicants may request accommodations needed to participate in the application process.
