How much do remote antenna design jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 6, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote antenna design in the United States is $111,500.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $84,000.00 and $139,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is remote antenna design?

Remote antenna design refers to the process of designing antennas that can be deployed and operated in remote locations, often controlled or monitored from a distance. This field involves creating antennas for applications such as wireless communication, satellite systems, and IoT devices, ensuring optimal signal transmission and reception. Engineers in this role use specialized software and tools to simulate, test, and optimize antenna performance, often collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project requirements. Remote antenna design is critical for expanding connectivity to areas where traditional infrastructure may not be feasible.

What are some common challenges faced by remote antenna design engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote antenna design engineers often encounter challenges such as limited access to physical prototypes, difficulties in real-time collaboration with team members, and managing time zone differences. To address these, engineers typically leverage advanced simulation software, participate in regular virtual meetings, and use collaborative digital platforms for sharing designs and feedback. Building strong communication habits and being proactive in seeking clarification can help ensure projects stay on track and technical issues are resolved efficiently.

What is the difference between Remote Antenna Design vs RF Engineer?

AspectRemote Antenna DesignRF Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related; certifications like FCC or IEEEBachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering; similar certifications
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, remote collaboration, CAD softwareTesting labs, fieldwork, design and simulation
Industry UsageTelecommunications, aerospace, consumer electronicsWireless communication, broadcasting, defense

Remote Antenna Design and RF Engineer roles share similar educational backgrounds and certifications. While Remote Antenna Designers focus on creating antenna structures often remotely using CAD tools, RF Engineers work on broader radio frequency systems, including testing and field deployment. Both roles are vital in telecommunications and related industries, but their daily tasks and work environments differ slightly, with Remote Antenna Design emphasizing remote design work and RF Engineering involving more field and testing activities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Antenna Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Antenna Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, RF/microwave theory, and antenna design principles, usually backed by a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation tools like HFSS, CST Microwave Studio, and CAD software, as well as familiarity with industry standards and certification (such as IEEE membership), is important. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication are standout soft skills in this field. These abilities ensure high-performing, reliable antenna systems and enable seamless collaboration on complex projects, even when working remotely.

Job description

RF & WIRELESS COMPLIANCE ENGINEER (STARLINK)

SpaceX is leveraging its experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world's largest satellite constellation that provides fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide. We design, build, manufacture, and operate all parts of the system including thousands of satellites and millions of customer kits. Our customers currently include teachers in the most remote parts of the Amazon, researchers in Antarctica, digital nomads who travel via RV, emergency responders, commercial airlines, cruise lines, and residential users who live in more rural or developing areas. While users can get online within minutes almost anywhere in the world, we've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential. We are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink's utility for individuals, communities, and businesses.

Product Compliance Engineers will play a critical role as SpaceX strives to deliver internet to those that need it most. They will drive regulatory efforts, impact internal design decisions, and obtain the product certifications needed to sell and ship millions of consumer-facing devices. These devices - including Starlink dishes, Wi-Fi routers, power supply, accessories, etc. - are designed and manufactured completely in-house by SpaceX. We are hiring an RF/Wireless Compliance Engineer focused on regulatory certification of Starlink's radio products and systems. You will own FCC, ISED, ETSI, and international radio compliance from design through certification and market access. Engineers on the team will be hands-on, regularly interact with multiple technical disciplines, and ultimately ensure that Starlink is a global success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead RF regulatory strategy and certification for Starlink User Terminals and Wi-Fi products across all target markets
  • Own compliance to FCC, ISED, ETSI, RED, and equivalent global wireless regulations- Manage radio testing (emissions, immunity, SAR, etc.) with accredited labs
  • Work directly with RF hardware and firmware teams to implement design changes required for certification
  • Prepare and maintain technical files and certification applications
  • Support global market access for wireless features, including new frequency bands and power levels

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, other STEM discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in RF/wireless regulatory compliance and certification (internship experience is applicable)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of dedicated experience in RF/wireless regulatory compliance and certification for high-volume consumer electronics, industrial equipment, or information technology equipment
  • Strong experience with Wi-Fi or satellite communication systems
  • Deep knowledge of FCC, ISED, ETSI, RED, and key international wireless regulations
  • Experience running RF compliance test campaigns
  • Ability to read and interpret radio standards and translate them into actionable design requirements
  • Experience supporting antenna and RF layout for regulatory success
  • Track record of successfully certifying complex wireless consumer products

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission critical deadlines
