Job description

Production - Unannounced Book-Based Animated Series

Format - Short-form digital animated series

Position Type - Contract/Flat-fee Assignment

Work Arrangement - On-site, Kingston, Ontario (preferred)

Send Applications to: info@limestonecreativeinc.com

About the Role

We are looking for talented Storyboard Artists to join the team on an upcoming book-based animated production. The initial engagement is for a short-form digital animated series, with the potential to lead into a planned long-form animated series based on the same property.

The production is primarily 2D Toon Boom Harmony with a stylized, cinematic and anime-influenced visual direction. We are looking for artists with strong storytelling, drawing and staging skills who can translate scripts into clear, entertaining and visually dynamic boards.

Storyboard assignments will generally cover approximately 4.5 minutes of finished running time. Artists will be responsible for carrying their assigned boards through the normal revision and approval process.

 What You'll Do

โ€ข Translate scripts and creative direction into clear, engaging storyboard sequences.

โ€ข Stage character performance, comedy, suspense, action and supernatural sequences with strong visual storytelling.

โ€ข Develop effective shot composition, camera choices, screen direction and continuity.

โ€ข Create expressive poses and clear acting that communicate story and character efficiently.

โ€ข Explore cinematic and stylized staging where appropriate while remaining conscious of the practical requirements of a 2D television animation pipeline.

โ€ข Work closely with the Director and production team to develop sequences and respond efficiently to notes.

โ€ข Complete revisions to assigned boards based on Director and production feedback through normal approval.

โ€ข Deliver clear, production-ready storyboard packages within the agreed schedule.

What We're Looking For

โ€ข Strong storyboard, drawing and visual-storytelling skills.

โ€ข Strong understanding of staging, composition, camera, continuity and screen direction.

โ€ข Strong character posing, acting and expression skills.

โ€ข Ability to interpret scripts and communicate story clearly through images.

โ€ข Professional storyboard experience in television animation, feature animation or comparable production is preferred.

โ€ข Experience boarding action, suspense, supernatural or visually heightened material is considered an asset.

โ€ข Anime-influenced, cinematic or strongly stylized storyboard experience is considered an asset.

โ€ข Experience working in Toon Boom Storyboard Pro is strongly preferred.

โ€ข Understanding of 2D animation production and the practical impact of storyboard choices on downstream production is considered an asset.

Portfolio Required

All applicants must include a link to a portfolio of relevant storyboard work in their application materials. Please include examples demonstrating visual storytelling, character performance, staging, composition and camera work. Where possible, we are particularly interested in seeing action, suspense, cinematic or anime-influenced sequences.

Storyboard sequences or animatics demonstrating continuity across a complete scene or sequence are especially useful. Professional production work is preferred, but strong personal work demonstrating relevant skills may also be considered.

Where collaborative work is included, applicants should clearly identify their artistic contribution.

Contract Information

Storyboard assignments will generally cover approximately 4.5 minutes of finished running time.

Rate: $4,500-$6,000 per approximately 4.5-minute storyboard assignment. The final flat fee will be determined based on experience, skills and qualifications.

The assignment fee includes the initial storyboard pass and reasonable revisions required through the normal creative approval process.

There may be an opportunity for successful artists to continue onto additional short-form assignments and/or the planned long-form series based on the same property, depending on production requirements, performance and availability.

It is preferred that this position is primarily based on-site at our studio in Kingston, Ontario. Applicants should be based in Kingston or the surrounding area, or be able to work primarily on-site in Kingston. Remote applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
