Job description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion

We are seeking a Principal Design and Portfolio Manager to own and drive the end-to-end delivery of data center design and portfolio execution across the Europe and Asia.. This serving as the single-threaded owner of schedule integrity, milestone lifecycle management, and on-time capacity delivery across a complex, multi-billion dollar portfolio of builds.
You will define the strategic framework for how designs move from ambiguous business requirements establishing the systems, mechanisms, and governance structures that ensure precision, accountability, and transparency at scale. You will own the end-to-end value proposition of delivery execution: developing comprehensive program plans, defining KPIs that measure success, conducting regular risk assessments across the program lifecycle, and building robust reporting mechanisms that translate complex technical schedules into clear executive narratives for senior leadership.
You will establish program constraints, challenge assumptions as new data arises, and evaluate the feasibility and impact of proposed technical solutions not as the engineer designing the solution, but as the leader who ensures informed decisions drive on-time outcomes

Every missed milestone is a signal to improve the system; you will develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, author documents that drive approvals at key decision points, and escalate critical risks to appropriate leadership when necessary.
The ideal candidate should thrive in ambiguity and competing priorities. Be an exceptionally strong communicator both written and verbally who can translate complex technical schedules into clear executive narratives. Possess a strong sense of organization, accountability, and team building that fosters robust working relationships across internal and external stakeholders

Are comfortable managing remote delivery teams and can navigate mechanical/electrical engineering concepts with confidence. Are relentless about on-time delivery and treat every missed milestone as a learning opportunity to improve the system.
Key job responsibilities
Own and be accountable for on-time delivery of data center designs and their milestones across the regional portfolio
Shapes decisions and drives accountability across teams they don't own, influencing outcomes without authority or direct technical involvement.
Drive schedule adherence through proactive identification of slippage, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans
Develop and maintain milestone health dashboards with clear red/yellow/green status indicators
Implement mechanisms for early detection of at-risk or in-trouble projects and escalate with path-to-green plans
Design and own the MBR (Monthly Business Review) reporting cadence, content, and schedule management for regional leadership
Build and maintain enhanced reporting including KPIs for schedule health, milestone completion rates, and delivery velocity
Prepare executive narratives with recommendations that articulate decision points relative to cost, timing, and strategic trade-offs
Capture, share, and leverage technical program management best practices across Data Center Engineering
