Work EnvironmentDesign, analysis, and troubleshooting remotely; collaboration with engineering teamsHands-on maintenance, inspections, and repairs at airports or hangars
Industry UsageAircraft manufacturing, airline operations, aerospace companiesAirlines, maintenance providers, repair stations

The Remote Aircraft Reliability Engineer focuses on analyzing aircraft systems to improve reliability through remote assessments and data analysis, while the Remote Aircraft Maintenance Technician performs hands-on repairs and inspections. Both roles require FAA certifications and are integral to aviation safety, but they differ mainly in work environment and daily responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Aircraft Reliability Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Aircraft Reliability Engineer, you need a strong background in aerospace engineering, data analysis, and maintenance reliability principles, typically supported by a relevant degree and experience in aviation systems. Familiarity with reliability analysis software, maintenance tracking systems, and statistical tools like Weibull analysis or Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) is commonly required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are key soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting technical findings remotely. These skills ensure accurate risk assessments, optimized maintenance strategies, and safe, cost-effective aircraft operations even when working from a distance.

What does a Remote Aircraft Reliability Engineer do?

A Remote Aircraft Reliability Engineer is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and improving the reliability and safety of aircraft systems while working from a remote location. They use data analysis, maintenance records, and engineering principles to identify potential issues before they become serious problems. These engineers collaborate with maintenance teams, manufacturers, and regulatory bodies to develop strategies that minimize downtime and ensure compliance with aviation standards. Their work helps to enhance the performance and longevity of aircraft fleets, even when performed remotely.

How does a Remote Aircraft Reliability Engineer collaborate with on-site maintenance teams to address urgent technical issues?

Remote Aircraft Reliability Engineers typically maintain close communication with on-site maintenance teams via digital platforms, such as video calls and real-time messaging. When urgent technical issues arise, they quickly analyze incoming data, provide troubleshooting guidance, and may recommend immediate corrective actions based on reliability trends. Effective collaboration relies on clear documentation and proactive follow-up to ensure solutions are implemented and issues are tracked for future reliability improvements. This approach helps bridge the gap between remote analysis and hands-on maintenance, ensuring aircraft safety and operational efficiency.

Job description

At MetaPhase, we believe Quirky is Cool and being authentic is the only way to be! We take the work we do very seriously and do a lot of important mission-focused work for our clients. We are individuals with different passions and strengths who take as much joy in the work we do as from those we work with. Today, we have a team that is invested in creating new solutions that lean forward, challenge the status quo, but also reflect our intimate knowledge of our customers' business. Over the years we have fostered a culture in which we are united by shared values-passion, solidarity, generosity, curiosity, and boldness-and these come alive in the work we do and how we do it.
Together, we know our people are our difference-for our clients and our colleagues.
Are you ready to:
  • Work alongside a dedicated and diverse set of people to offer honest advice and practical guidance to our clients?
  • Learn and grow by taking advantage of every opportunity available to you?
  • Join a company which prides itself on its shared values and inclusive culture?
  • Be the difference and make it happen?
Role Summary

MetaPhase is looking for a Cloud & DevOps Engineer, a sharp, motivated, early-to-mid career engineer who is ready to own real infrastructure, ship real code, and grow fast. You will support a federal learning management system, working across AWS cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, application code, and production operations.
This is not a passive support role. You will build, deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve a production system using ChallengeAI by MetaPhase, our proprietary AI platform that accelerates everything from development and testing to documentation and incident response. If you have been waiting for a role where AI tooling is part of the job and not just a buzzword, this is it.
The tech stack includes React, TypeScript, JavaScript, PostgreSQL, GitHub Actions, and AWS. You do not need to be an expert in all of it. You need to be capable, curious, and willing to learn fast.
What You Will Be Doing
  • Own and improve AWS cloud operations including deployment, configuration, monitoring, security, logging, backup, and cost management
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions workflows, deployment scripts, rollback procedures, and operational runbooks
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot application functionality across the React/TypeScript/PostgreSQL stack
  • Monitor application health, performance, errors, uptime, logs, and security events and resolve issues before users feel them
  • Use ChallengeAI by MetaPhase daily to accelerate development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and operational workflows
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide occasional after-hours support for production incidents and releases
  • Support code reviews, pull requests, and release coordination in a GitHub-based development workflow

What We Need From You (Required)

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in software development, DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, or production application support
  • Hands-on experience building, deploying, or supporting modern web applications in a cloud environment
  • Working knowledge of AWS including compute, networking, IAM, storage, monitoring, logging, and security fundamentals
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, and CI/CD concepts
  • Ability to debug across application, database, cloud, and deployment layers and connect the dots rather than focus on a single layer
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI-native development and curiosity about how generative AI changes engineering workflows
  • Must be located in the Washington, DC metro area and available to work from MetaPhase headquarters in Reston, Virginia four days a week.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must be eligible for Public Trust clearance and DHS Entry on Duty (EOD)
What Sets You Apart (Preferred)
  • AWS certification such as Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate, or active pursuit of one
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, or JavaScript; front-end coding chops at any level are a plus
  • Familiarity with FedRAMP-aligned cloud environments or federal government IT systems
  • A GitHub profile, portfolio, personal project, or demo that shows you build and ship real things outside of work
  • Experience with learning management systems, SaaS platforms, or public-facing web applications
  • Background in DevSecOps, SRE practices, or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
Work Location
  • MetaPhase headquarters in Reston, Virginia and client office in Tysons, Virginia as needed
Remote Schedule
  • Hybrid
Travel
  • Less than 10%
Education Level
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in related field; equivalent experience will be considered
Clearance Level
  • Existing or eligibility to obtain a Public Trust and/or DHS suitability clearance
  • DHS EOD (Entry on Duty) required to begin employment
  • U.S. Citizenship required (NO EXCEPTIONS)
Compensation
  • Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $90,000 - $100,000.
