Remote Aircraft Load Planner information

What is a remote aircraft load planner?

A Remote Aircraft Load Planner is a logistics professional who is responsible for calculating and planning the distribution of cargo, baggage, and passengers on an aircraft, often working remotely using specialized software and communication tools. Their main goal is to ensure the aircraft's load is balanced and within safety limits, optimizing fuel efficiency and compliance with aviation regulations. They collaborate closely with ground operations, flight crews, and dispatchers to finalize load sheets and address last-minute changes. This role is essential for flight safety and operational efficiency, especially in cargo and commercial aviation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote aircraft load planner?

To thrive as a Remote Aircraft Load Planner, you need a solid understanding of weight and balance principles, cargo handling procedures, and typically a background in aviation or logistics. Familiarity with load planning software, airline-specific systems, and sometimes IATA or FAA certification is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills are crucial for coordinating with remote teams and ensuring accurate load distribution. These skills are vital to ensure flight safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient aircraft operations.

What are some common challenges faced by remote aircraft load planners, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote Aircraft Load Planners often face challenges such as coordinating with multiple teams across different time zones, adapting to rapidly changing flight schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations from a distance. Effective communication skills and proficiency with digital collaboration tools are essential for overcoming these obstacles. Staying organized and proactive in monitoring updates from operations, cargo, and flight crews helps ensure the safe and efficient distribution of aircraft loads. Regular training on airline software and safety protocols can also support success in this remote role.

What is the difference between Remote Aircraft Load Planner vs Remote Flight Operations Coordinator?

Work EnvironmentAircraft loading planning, cargo management, logisticsFlight scheduling, communication with crews and ground staff
Industry UsageAirlines, cargo carriers, charter servicesAirlines, private flight operators, charter companies

The Remote Aircraft Load Planner primarily focuses on cargo and passenger load planning, ensuring safety and compliance during aircraft loading. In contrast, the Remote Flight Operations Coordinator manages overall flight schedules and coordination. While both roles require FAA knowledge and industry experience, their core responsibilities differ, with the Load Planner centered on cargo logistics and the Coordinator on flight operations management.

How to become a remote aircraft load planner?

To become a remote aircraft load planner, candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles preferring post-secondary education or training in logistics, aviation, or related fields. Relevant skills include knowledge of weight and balance calculations, familiarity with load planning software, and strong organizational abilities; certifications such as FAA Loadmaster or related logistics credentials can enhance prospects. Experience in aviation or cargo handling is often required, and the role may involve working flexible hours or remotely depending on the employer.

Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed, and flexibility.

What we need

We are looking for an Advanced Business Intelligence Engineer to join our Business Intelligence & Analytics team within our Software Engineering organization. Your job will be to design and build the data models, reports, and dashboards that turn complex operational data into actionable insights for our business and our customers.

This is a hands-on role centered on modern BI development with tools like Qlik, Tableau, and Power BI on top of large-scale data warehouses. You will partner closely with business stakeholders to deliver analytics solutions while helping migrate our existing data lake to a new cloud platform.

What we do

The Business Intelligence & Analytics team is part of the Software Engineering organization, which builds the intelligent software platforms that power Symbotic's advanced automation systems. The team builds and maintains the data warehouse and analytics environment that delivers operational metrics, warehouse reporting, and self-service insights across large-scale deployments - while modernizing that platform by migrating our data lake to the cloud.

Our culture emphasizes thoughtful engineering, maintainable systems, technical rigor, and close collaboration with the business partners we serve.

What you'll do

  • Design and build data models based on analytics and reporting requirements, data sources, and mapping specifications.

  • Develop programs and code using advanced analytics tools such as Qlik, Tableau, and Power BI to visualize data and deliver insights from complex transformation and mapping specs.

  • Provide technical thought leadership on BI tools and analytical concepts across analytics, reporting, and dashboard projects.

  • Partner with business stakeholders to deliver system projects, including planning, resource management, and deliverables.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve data and reporting issues using advanced problem-solving techniques.

  • Provide level-of-effort estimates for new project work, enhancements, and fixes.

  • Support the migration of our existing data lake to a new cloud platform.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of business intelligence and analytics experience, including interactive dashboards, QlikView, Tableau, NoSQL, and big data.

  • Strong knowledge of data warehousing fundamentals, with hands-on experience designing large databases and data warehouses (logical and physical design) in a team environment.

  • Proven experience across the full BI solution lifecycle analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation using data warehouse/data mart design, ETL, and client/server applications.

  • Experience writing technical and functional design documents (TDD, FSD), test plans, gap analyses, and source-to-target mappings across Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

  • Strong pattern recognition and predictive modeling skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of Python, Scala, and open-source data tools.

  • Proficiency with version control tools such as Git, GitLab, and GitHub.

  • Experience with wholesale and/or retail industry systems - procurement, merchandising, financial, warehouse, and retail.
