What is a remote AIOps engineer?

Remote Aiops Engineers are IT professionals who specialize in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to automate and enhance IT operations, typically while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They monitor, analyze, and optimize system performance, detect anomalies, and help prevent outages by leveraging AI-driven tools and algorithms. By working remotely, they can support organizations globally, offering flexibility and a broad skill set to manage complex IT environments efficiently.

How do remote AIOps engineers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve incidents and optimize IT operations?

Remote AIOps Engineers frequently work with IT operations, development, and security teams to monitor, analyze, and automate responses to system events and incidents. Collaboration often happens through virtual meetings, shared dashboards, and incident management tools, ensuring seamless communication despite physical distance. They play a key role in facilitating root cause analysis, sharing insights from AI-driven analytics, and implementing automation solutions to prevent future issues. Effective communication and the ability to translate technical findings for non-technical stakeholders are essential for success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote AIOps engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote AIOps Engineer, you need a strong background in IT operations, machine learning, and data analytics, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with monitoring tools (such as Splunk, Datadog, or Prometheus), scripting languages (like Python), and cloud platforms is essential, and certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Google Cloud Professional Engineer are highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently set outstanding candidates apart in a remote setting. These skills and qualifications are crucial for proactively identifying and resolving IT issues, automating processes, and ensuring system reliability in distributed environments.

From credit card processing to back-office management, North points the way to smarter, faster, and just plain better payment solutions.
Job Summary:
The Principal Cloud & AIOps Engineer drives the overall technical architecture, automation, and operational resilience of North's multi-cloud infrastructure. This role leverages artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced cloud native tools to build self-healing, highly scalable systems. Responsible for setting continuous engineering standards, the Principal Cloud & AIOps Engineer ensures that all enterprise infrastructure aligns with strict security requirements, modern AI-driven practices, and performance objectives.
What You'll Do:
  • Cloud Architecture & Vision: Architect, optimize, and maintain NAB's Amazon Web Services (AWS) and multi-cloud environments for maximum availability, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency.
  • AIOps & Intelligent Automation: Design and implement AIOps platform capabilities, automated anomaly detection, predictive scaling, and self-healing incident remediation workflows using AI/ML operational tooling.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & CI/CD: Establish enterprise-wide standards for IaC (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD automation pipelines to streamline secure software delivery.
  • Security & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce zero-trust network perimeters and maintain strict compliance with industry security frameworks, including PCI Digital Security Standard.
  • Observability & Telemetry Infrastructure: Build telemetry data pipelines (metrics, logs, traces) to aggregate system performance data into intelligent observability engines.
  • AI Tooling & Cloud Workload Optimization: Evaluate, pilot, and deploy generative AI tools and LLM/AI-assisted developer tooling to enhance engineering productivity and cloud cost management.
  • Cross-Functional System Support: Work directly with DevOps, Site Reliability, Product Engineering, and InfoSec teams to integrate cloud infrastructure best practices.

What We Need From You:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, with extensive hands-on experience in AWS.
  • Deep expertise in Linux systems administration (RHEL, Ubuntu) and enterprise automation.
  • Production experience using Terraform and Ansible for IaC and configuration management.
  • Proven experience implementing AIOps frameworks, machine learning models for anomaly detection, or AI-driven observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana AI plugins, Dynatrace).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Preferred):
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional) or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer (Professional).
  • Hands-on experience with PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure and security controls.
  • Experience with multi-cloud deployments (Google Cloud Platform).
  • Scripting/Programming proficiency in Python, Bash, or Perl.
  • Experience with AI/ML workflow pipelines, vector data indexing, or deploying AI model workloads in containerized environments (Kubernetes/EKS).

  • Medical, Dental, & Vision Coverage
  • Flexible Paid Time Off
  • 401(k) + Match
