Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Fire Protection Engineer for our DOE client in North Las Vegas.  The Sr. Fire Protection Engineer will support the Engineering Division providing fire protection programmatic implementation support at various NNSS and NLV facilities. Deliverables include fire protection assessments, fire hazards analysis, fire risk assessments, preparing equivalencies & exemptions, design reviews, procedure reviews, life safety code analysis, system walk-downs, and other duties as assigned. 
 
Must have experience with DOE facilities and fire protection in nuclear facilities. Must have good analytical capability to resolve complex fire protection issues with code interpretation, applicability, and implementation. Experience with Notifier voice fire alarm and detection, hybrid fire extinguishing systems, fire hazards analysis preparation per DOE-STD-1066, and experience in fire protection with underground facilities preferred.
 
Location: North Las Vegas, NV preferred, open to remote with once-a-month travel; Periodic trips to the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) as needed
 
Must be US Citizen.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct construction document reviews as required.
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level III (Water Based Layout) Certification acceptable in lieu of B.S. in Engineering.
  • Generation of Facility Hazard Analysis (FHA) documents, modifications to existing FHA documents, facility FP assessments, exemption and equivalency requests, detailed FP design, and calculation of various FP systems including pre-action, wet pipe and dry pipe systems, and review of FP packages and contractor submittals.
  • Familiarity with MicroStation computer aided drafting applications is required.
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering or similar accredited engineering B.S., minimum 10 years of practical related engineering practice, 8 years of which will have been in charge of diverse fire protection engineering design/construction work.
