Remote Advanced Process Control Engineer information

How does a Remote Advanced Process Control Engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams to implement and optimize control strategies?

A Remote Advanced Process Control Engineer frequently works closely with on-site engineers, operators, and IT staff through virtual meetings, remote access tools, and shared project platforms. Communication is key, as remote engineers must clearly explain technical recommendations and work through troubleshooting steps with local personnel. Regular check-ins, detailed documentation, and screen-sharing sessions help bridge the distance, ensuring that control strategies are effectively implemented and performance improvements are tracked. Building strong relationships and maintaining responsiveness to on-site feedback are essential for remote success in this role.

What does a Remote Advanced Process Control Engineer do?

A Remote Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer designs, implements, and optimizes control systems for industrial processes from a remote location. Their work involves developing algorithms, configuring control software, and analyzing plant data to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality. They often collaborate with onsite teams, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the control systems meet operational goals. Remote APC Engineers rely on secure networks and digital tools to monitor and adjust systems in real time, supporting industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, and manufacturing.

What is the difference between Remote Advanced Process Control Engineer vs Remote Process Control Engineer?

Job description

Join a dynamic and innovative team as a Controls Design Engineer in Concord, NC, where your expertise will play a crucial role in advancing process control technologies for a variety of applications, including boilers, industrial furnaces, and combustion systems. We are seeking a talented individual who thrives in a collaborative environment, working closely with fellow engineers and project managers to create cutting-edge solutions that drive project success and exceed sales objectives.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing sophisticated process control systems that meet technical specifications and project requirements. While the position is based at our Concord office, we are open to considering remote applicants from the Carolinas who can travel occasionally for on-site meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop designs for complex process control systems, including those related to combustion and industrial processes.
  • Review project specifications and documentation to establish design criteria, focusing on system power requirements and control system hardware.
  • Convert design specifications into detailed AutoCAD drawings, including:
  • Electrical ladder diagrams
  • PLC input/output module wiring diagrams
  • Detailed layouts for control panel enclosures and subpanels to facilitate fabrication and assembly.
  • Select and recommend appropriate instrumentation for process controls, such as pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, flowmeters, and control valves.
  • Conduct process system evaluations and provide on-site project support as necessary.
  • Assist the sales team with project cost estimation and quoting processes.
  • Offer technical support to both the panel manufacturing team and the valve assembly department.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests for control panels before shipment, ensuring quality and compliance with standards.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned to support team objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in controls engineering or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred; however, candidates with a two-year technical degree or associate degree combined with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing process control systems, particularly in combustion technologies.
  • Skilled in generating electrical schematics, PLC wiring diagrams, and mechanical fabrication drawings.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to adapt to company-specific software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with engineering teams, sales personnel, and clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

In addition to a competitive salary, the organization offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical, vision, and dental insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching up to 4% and immediate vesting
  • Employer-paid short- and long-term disability coverage, plus basic life and AD&D insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement to support your professional development.

If you are looking to advance your career in a stimulating and supportive environment, we encourage you to apply and contribute to the exciting future of process control engineering.
