Job Description

Schnabel Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a background in civil, geotechnical, geostructural, structural, or tunnel engineering to join our tunnel program management and engineering group in the Washington, D.C. area. Candidates will support business development, project management, and staff management for tunnel design, rehabilitation, inspection, and construction management projects. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the design of tunnels, excavation support systems, underground structures, foundations, and structure or pipeline trenchless rehabilitation.

Candidate will support the project design team from a client office in Washington, D.C. or from Schnabelโ€™s Sterling, VA office.ย  Moving expenses, if required, may be reimbursable.ย  Candidates may be eligible for relocation bonus and cost-of-living salary adjustment for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, management and execution efforts of tunnel and underground design and rehabilitation projects
  • Project management of tunnel, rehabilitation and underground projects including scope, schedule, budget, and directly communicating and reporting on these items to clients
  • Maintaining and/or developing good client relationships
  • Collaborate with and lead multidiscipline and multi-location internal and external teams through the tunnel or rehabilitation planning and design process
  • Perform and/or provide supervision of conventional geotechnical and tunnel structural design analyses
  • Manage development of contract documents for designs for tunnels, shafts, excavation support, tunnel and pipeline rehabilitations, and other underground facilities including calculations and design reports, plans, specifications, reports, and other project contract documents
  • Preparation of proposals including developing narratives, manhour estimates, and client coordination
  • Mentor and train junior staff engineers
  • Support marketing and business development across the country. Previous experience with business development and involvement with professional organizations is a plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering (Masterโ€™s Degree preferred)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer and ability to extend licensure to other US states through reciprocity
  • Minimum of 15 years engineering experience with at least 10 years demonstrating a strong project management background. Experience on tunnel and underground construction projects is a plus. Strong candidates with less experience and a proven track record may be considered
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Periodic travel for projects, conferences, meetings, and other responsibilities is required and anticipated to be up to 20%
  • Ability to work on active or potential construction sites including site work that may involve work in underground spaces, above slopes and shafts, over rough terrain, and in remote locations.
