About the Role:
As an Actuarial Associate you will provide actuarial analysis and technical expertise in support of the strategic objectives for the Pricing Actuarial Department within Security Benefit Life Insurance Company. You will contribute to the management and financial success of annuity and retirement products by conducting product research, modeling and pricing new products, analyzing in-force business, and completing special projects — working closely with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Operations across a variety of actuarial initiatives.

This position reports to the Senior Director & Actuary and is based out of our home office in Overland Park or Topeka, Kansas. SB associates work in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

  • Perform actuarial modeling and financial analysis to support pricing and product decisions
  • Support the design, pricing, implementation, and ongoing management of annuity products
  • Prepare actuarial exhibits and reports
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial models using Prophet and other tools
  • Develop and enhance automation and data solutions to improve modeling efficiency and reporting
  • Analyze profitability, risk, and sensitivity under various economic and regulatory scenarios
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Actuarial Associate: 3+ years of relevant actuarial experience and an ASA designation
  • Senior Actuarial Assistant: 2+ years of relevant actuarial experience and a minimum of four Society of Actuaries examinations passed
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in at least one of: VBA, C++, C#, SQL, Python, or R
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and actuarial software
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong initiative to work independently
  • Experience with actuarial modeling software; Prophet experience is a plus
  • Experience with annuity products (Fixed, Fixed Index, or Variable) and actuarial pricing or product development preferred
