Remote Access Control Engineer information

What is a Remote Access Control Engineer?

A Remote Access Control Engineer is an IT professional responsible for designing, implementing, and managing secure remote access solutions for an organization's systems and networks. Their main duties include configuring VPNs, managing access permissions, and ensuring that remote connections are protected against unauthorized access. They often work with various security tools, firewalls, and authentication protocols to maintain secure connectivity for remote employees or third parties. This role is critical for organizations that support remote or hybrid work environments, helping to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with security policies.

How does a Remote Access Control Engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams to ensure seamless system integration and issue resolution?

Remote Access Control Engineers work closely with on-site IT and security teams through regular virtual meetings, real-time communication tools, and remote monitoring software. They often assist with system installations, troubleshoot access issues, and provide guidance or training to staff on-site. Effective collaboration relies on clear documentation, proactive communication, and a strong understanding of both the technical environment and the physical security requirements. This teamwork ensures that remote configurations align with on-site needs and that any issues are swiftly addressed.

What is the difference between Remote Access Control Engineer vs Network Security Specialist?

The Network Security Specialist has a broader scope, focusing on overall network security measures, threat mitigation, and infrastructure protection. Both roles often collaborate but serve distinct functions within cybersecurity teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Access Control Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Access Control Engineer, you need a solid understanding of network security, access control systems, and authentication protocols, usually supported by a degree in computer science or related certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP. Familiarity with tools such as VPNs, firewalls, identity and access management (IAM) platforms, and remote monitoring systems is essential. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and clear communication make someone stand out in this position. These skills ensure secure, reliable remote access and protect organizational assets from unauthorized use or cyber threats.

If you're ready to grow your career alongside some of the industry's best, come join us โ€” you're key to our success

We are currently looking for an Okta Technical Consultant with strong experience in Okta Workforce Identity Cloud (WIC) and Okta Identity Governance (OIG). In this role, you will be responsible for designing and delivering secure, scalable identity solutions using Okta, helping customers strengthen their security posture and modernize their digital ecosystems. You will act as a key bridge between business needs and technical implementation, ensuring Okta-based IAM solutionsโ€”along with identity governance capabilitiesโ€”are effectively deployed, integrated, and optimized to meet client objectives.

Location: USA

Employment Type: Full-Time, Remote

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement Okta Workforce Identity Cloud (WIC), including SSO (Single Sign-On), MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication), and Adaptive Authentication.
  • Integrate Okta with enterprise applications (SaaS, cloud, and on-premises) using SAML, OAuth, OIDC, and SCIM.
  • Configure and manage Okta Lifecycle Management (LCM) for automated provisioning and deprovisioning.
  • Support and implement Okta Identity Governance (OIG) capabilities such as access requests, access reviews (certifications), and entitlement management.
  • Define and implement joiner-mover-leaver (JML) processes to automate identity lifecycle workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Architecture, Engineering, Security, and Customer Success to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions.
  • Manage multiple client engagements, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery within scope and budget.
  • Provide technical expertise during solution deployment, configuration, integration, and post-implementation support.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to authentication, federation, and provisioning within Okta WIC environments.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, expectation management, and high customer satisfaction.

Who We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Consultant delivering enterprise IAM solutions.
  • Proven experience configuring and implementing Okta Workforce Identity Cloud (WIC) is required.
  • 2โ€“4+ years of hands-on experience working with Okta.
  • Strong experience with core Okta capabilities including SSO, MFA, lifecycle management, and application integrations.
  • Exposure to Okta Identity Governance (OIG) features such as access certifications, access requests, and governance workflows.
  • Solid understanding of identity protocols including SAML, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and SCIM.
  • Experience integrating Okta with enterprise applications and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have skills:

  • At least one Okta certification (Professional, Administrator, or Consultant) is expected. An Okta Identity Governance (OIG) badge is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Okta Identity Engine (OIE) and advanced authentication policies.
  • Knowledge of broader IAM/IGA tools such as SailPoint IdentityIQ / IdentityNow, CyberArk, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOX, ISO, GDPR.
  • Experience with RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) and governance models.
  • Experience with scripting, automation, or API integrations using Okta APIs. #LI-RR1
