What does a remodeling consultant do?

A Remodeling Consultant helps homeowners plan and execute home renovation projects. They assess client needs, provide design recommendations, estimate costs, and coordinate with contractors to ensure a smooth remodeling process. Their goal is to align the project with the client's vision, budget, and timeline while ensuring quality workmanship.

What are the typical responsibilities of a remodeling consultant during a remodeling project?

Remodeling Consultants typically manage the end-to-end process of home or business renovations, including meeting with clients to assess needs, creating design proposals, and estimating project costs. They coordinate with architects, contractors, and suppliers to ensure materials and schedules align with client goals. Consultants also oversee timelines, monitor progress, and address any challenges that arise during construction. Regular client communication is important, as Remodeling Consultants often act as the primary point of contact throughout the project. This mix of responsibilities makes each day varied and client-focused, requiring strong organizational and people skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remodeling consultant position, and why are they important?

A Remodeling Consultant should possess expertise in construction practices, project management, and interior design, often supported by relevant experience or education in the building or design industries. Familiarity with CAD software, project scheduling tools, and certification in remodeling or construction management (such as NARI certification) is highly advantageous. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills help consultants effectively guide clients and collaborate with contractors. These abilities are crucial for ensuring projects meet client expectations, timelines, and budgets while maintaining high standards of quality and client satisfaction.

How much do remodeling consultants make?

Remodeling consultants typically earn between $45,000 and $85,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and project scope. Many also earn commissions or bonuses based on sales and client satisfaction, and strong communication and project management skills are important for success in this role.

DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen is looking for a full-time Remodeling Sales & Design Consultant to guide homeowners through kitchen, bath, and interior remodeling projects from the first consultation through signed contract.

This is a consultative sales and design role for someone who can understand what a client is trying to accomplish, help shape the right solution, guide design and selections, and confidently lead the relationship forward.

You will own the client relationship, but you will not be expected to do everything yourself. Our team provides support in estimating, design assistance, purchasing, and production so you can stay focused on the client, the solution, and moving the project toward a successful contract.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary generally $50,000โ€“$80,000, based on experience
  • Uncapped commission tied to sales and design performance
  • Additional sales-volume bonuses
  • Strong performers can earn well into six figures
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Hybrid work flexibility
  • Mileage reimbursement and professional development
What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Meet with prospective clients in the design center and in their homes
  • Understand their goals, priorities, budget, timeline, and decision process
  • Determine whether the project is a good fit for DreamMaker
  • Develop initial concepts and realistic project direction
  • Guide clients through design and material selections
  • Present design retainers, proposals, and final contracts
  • Collaborate with estimating, design support, purchasing, and production
  • Maintain strong communication and follow-through throughout the process
What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • Experience in consultative sales, kitchen and bath design, remodeling, cabinetry, interior design, or a related field
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence discussing budgets and helping clients make major decisions
  • Strong design judgment and spatial reasoning
  • Ability to manage multiple active client relationships
  • Excellent organization and follow-through
  • Comfortable use of computers, CRM systems, and design tools
  • Ability to travel locally

Experience with ProKitchen, 20/20, or similar design software is preferred but not required for the right candidate.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

You enjoy both people and design.

You listen carefully, ask direct questions, make strong recommendations, and are comfortable asking for the business when the solution is right. You understand that good sales is not about pressure; it is about helping the right client make a good decision.

You also understand that successful remodeling is more than creating a beautiful design. The solution has to work for the client financially, functionally, and practically.

Why DreamMaker

Many remodeling professionals are expected to sell, design, estimate, order materials, and manage construction largely on their own.

At DreamMaker, you are supported by specialists in estimating, design support, purchasing, and production. Your role is to understand the client, develop the right solution, earn their trust, and lead them successfully to contract.
