Job description

Carpenter / General Laborer

Guardian Building Co. is a residential construction and remodeling company based in Grosse Ile, MI, serving the Detroit Metro area. We are looking for experienced carpenters and general laborers to join our growing team.

Experience is preferred but not required for all positions. We are willing to train dependable, hardworking individuals who are interested in learning the trades. Pay is based on experience, skill level, reliability, and ability to work independently.

Skills & Experience We’re Looking For

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Kitchen, bathroom, basement, and whole-home remodeling
  • Rough framing
  • Finish carpentry and trim work
  • Drywall hanging, taping, mudding, and finishing
  • Interior and exterior painting
  • Window installation
  • Door installation
  • Siding
  • Cabinet installation
  • Flooring installation, including LVP, hardwood, tile, and carpet
  • Tile installation
  • Masonry
  • Flashing
  • Gutters
  • Roofing
  • Fencing
  • Concrete footings
  • Concrete flatwork
  • Insulation, including fiberglass batt and rigid board
  • Deck construction

You do not need experience in every area listed above. We are looking for applicants ranging from general laborers who are willing to learn to experienced, well-rounded carpenters who can handle multiple aspects of residential remodeling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform residential construction and remodeling work based on your experience and skill level.
  • Assist with demolition, framing, carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, tile, and other remodeling work.
  • Read measurements and follow project plans and instructions.
  • Safely operate common hand and power tools.
  • Load, unload, and move construction materials.
  • Maintain clean and organized jobsites.
  • Work efficiently with other employees and subcontractors.
  • Complete work with attention to detail and quality.
  • Follow jobsite safety procedures.
  • Take care of company tools, equipment, and customer property.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Dependable and able to consistently show up to work on time.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Comfortable performing physical construction work, including lifting materials and working on your feet throughout the day.
  • Experienced applicants should be able to demonstrate proficiency in their respective trades.
  • Ability to work throughout the Detroit Metro area.

Pay & Benefits

Pay: $18.00–$35.00+ per hour, depending on experience and skill level.
