Job description

Modern Concepts – Rhode Island
Cranston, RI + surrounding areas
Full-Time | $20–$25/hour, Depending on Experience

Modern Concepts LLC is seeking a motivated Apprentice Finish Carpenter to join our residential remodeling team.

We specialize in bathroom renovations and high-end residential remodeling, where craftsmanship, attention to detail, cleanliness, and professionalism are extremely important.

We are looking for someone with 1–2 years of construction, finish carpentry, and demolition experience who already has a basic foundation in the trades but wants to continue learning and developing into a highly skilled remodeler.

What You'll Be Working On

Our projects primarily include bathroom renovations and high-end residential remodeling, including:

  • Bathroom demolition and preparation
  • Finish carpentry and trim installation
  • Door, casing, and baseboard installation
  • Vanity and cabinet installation
  • Framing, blocking, and layout
  • Drywall installation and patching
  • Flooring installation
  • Shower and tub preparation
  • Waterproofing preparation
  • Tile-related preparation and finish work
  • Fixture and accessory installation
  • Jobsite protection, organization, and cleanup
  • Assisting Lead Remodelers throughout all phases of a project

Because we work inside occupied homes, keeping the client's property clean, protected, and professional throughout the project is a major part of the position.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 1–2 years of finish carpentry, remodeling, and demolition experience
  • Some form of construction/carpentry training, trade-school experience, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
  • Basic proficiency with common hand and power tools
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure
  • Basic finish carpentry skills
  • Experience working in residential construction
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • A professional attitude around homeowners

Most importantly, you must be open to learning.

What We're Not Looking For

This position is not a good fit for someone who:

  • Is frequently late, unreliable, or calls out
  • Needs constant supervision to stay productive
  • Rushes work or doesn't pay attention to details
  • Is unwilling to learn, take direction, or accept feedback
  • Doesn't keep a clean and organized jobsite
  • Is careless when working inside a client's home
  • Is looking for just a paycheck rather than an opportunity to grow

We don’t expect you to know everything, but we do expect reliability, a positive attitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. We’re looking for someone with a solid foundation who takes direction well, asks questions, accepts constructive feedback, and is motivated to continually improve their skills and craftsmanship.

Compensation

$20–$25/hour depending on experience, training, and demonstrated skill level.

Applicants with stronger finish carpentry skills and the ability to complete assigned tasks independently may qualify toward the higher end of the range.

There is opportunity for increased compensation and responsibility as your skills develop.

Opportunity for Growth

We are looking for someone interested in building a career in high-quality residential remodeling, not simply finding another construction job.

For the right person, our goal is to provide a path from:

Apprentice Finish Carpenter → Carpenter → Lead Remodeler

As you develop your skills, you'll have opportunities to learn more of the complete remodeling process and eventually take responsibility for larger portions of our projects.

Our Standards

High-end remodeling requires more than knowing how to use tools.

We expect our team members to:

  • Show up on time and ready to work
  • Maintain clean and organized jobsites
  • Protect clients' homes and belongings
  • Pay attention to small details
  • Follow instructions and company procedures
  • Communicate with the Lead Remodeler and Project Manager
  • Treat homeowners and coworkers professionally
  • Take pride and ownership in their work
  • Be willing to learn and improve every day

Apply:

Please submit your resume along with a brief description of your carpentry, bathroom remodeling, demolition, or residential construction experience and training.

If available, we encourage applicants to provide photos of previous carpentry or remodeling work.

If you're early in your carpentry career but serious about developing the skills required for high-end residential remodeling, we'd like to hear from you.
