Job description

The Senior Tax Analyst supports the Director, Tax & Treasury in the administration of indirect tax compliance activities across the organization. This role is responsible for preparing and filing sales and use tax returns, maintaining exemption certificate documentation, managing tax notices and audits, and supporting property tax compliance. The position requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting and compliance.

Scope of Responsibilities

This position performs tax compliance, accounting, and analytical activities related to U.S. and Canadian indirect taxes. The role supports sales and O tax return preparation, remittance processing, account reconciliations, document management, audit support, and coordination with external advisors on property tax matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and assist with the timely filing of U.S. sales and use tax returns and Canadian GST/HST and PST returns.
  • Maintain the indirect tax compliance calendar to ensure all filing and payment obligations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Manage the tax department inbox, respond to routine inquiries, and coordinate responses to tax notices and document requests.
  • Administer resale certificates for vendors, including preparation, maintenance, and storage within SharePoint.
  • Oversee the collection, validation, and maintenance of U.S. and Canadian customer exemption certificates to support compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate annual business license renewals, ensure proper classification, supporting documentation, and tax registrations are maintained.
  • Manage and support sales and use tax audits, including information gathering and auditor correspondence.
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and analyze account activity to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare recurring journal entry templates and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with property tax compliance activities and coordination with external advisors.
  • Participate in special projects and identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and overall efficiency within the tax function.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in tax, accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and proactively communicate workload challenges and competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with sales and use tax compliance and audit support.
  • Knowledge of Canadian indirect taxes, including GST/HST and PST.
  • Experience working with SAP Business One, Avalara, or other tax compliance software.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated process improvement mindset.
