Job Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing the hospice volunteer program to ensure adequate volunteer support for patients, families, and hospice operations. This role includes recruiting, training, supervising, and retaining volunteers while maintaining compliance with hospice regulations and organizational policies. The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) to identify volunteer needs, support patient care, and enhance the overall hospice experience. Essential Functions: Recruit and select volunteers to meet the needs of the hospice program. Develop and provide volunteer training and orientation programs in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements. Collaborate with the team to identify opportunities for volunteer services to support patients, families, and administrative functions. Provide ongoing supervision, guidance, and evaluation of volunteers to ensure effective and compassionate service. Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer files and service statistics as required by hospice policy. Evaluate the volunteer program regularly to identify areas for improvement, ensuring alignment with hospice goals and compliance standards. Develop strategies for volunteer support, recognition, and education to promote engagement and retention. Participate in IDG meetings and contribute to the development of individualized plans of care as appropriate. Provide information to individuals and community groups to promote awareness of hospice volunteer opportunities and services. Participate in budget preparation related to volunteer program development. Support the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program by contributing to program evaluation and reporting. Provide direct volunteer services as needed to support patient care and program operations. Additional Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned or requested.Conforms to all applicable Agency policies and procedures.Ethical decision-making.Participates actively in continuing education and in-services.Maintains confidentiality of patient information and business trade practicesAssumes accountability for reporting incidents and complaints according to Agency policy. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:Excellent leadership, organizational and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to supervise in accordance with Agencys policies and applicable laws.Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.Time managementCooperative attitudeAdvanced written and verbal interpersonal communication Information Management:Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security. Risk Management: Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations. Keeps abreast of changes in health care law. Maintains Agency/program compliance with local, state, and federal laws as well as state accreditation standards. Minimum Position Qualifications: Education:High School diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelors degree preferred Experience:1 year of experience in volunteer coordination, recruitment or program management preferred License / Certification:Drivers license and proof of current auto liability insurance; no listing in the OIG Excluded Provider listing Environmental Conditions:Works under a variety of conditions in facilities and offices; ability to work flexible schedule, ability to travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather. Moderate noise level; tasks may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens; moderate stress and emotional demands. Physical Requirements: Sitting is required. Requires ability to always handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and agency needs. Ability to travel.
