About Us
Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school where students learn core academic content through language immersion. Language offerings vary by campus: our North - Thornton campus offers Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian, while our Aurora and Douglas County campuses offer Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and French. GVA is truly a "global village." Our immersion teachers come from all over the world, each bringing their unique culture and language into the classroom. United by a common core, students are challenged to become world class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives, through an internationally benchmarked curriculum spanning each language village.
Position Summary:
As a Substitute Teacher at Global Village Academy, you will provide meaningful instruction to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Using the teacher's lesson plans and curriculum, you will foster a productive and safe learning environment, maintain classroom routines, and support student success throughout the school day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Report to the Front Desk/Administrative Assistant upon arrival.
  • Maintain established classroom routines and expectations.
  • Implement lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher and follow the school curriculum.
  • Monitor student behavior in the classroom and during transitions or other school activities.
  • Take daily attendance and maintain any other necessary records.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures applicable to regular teachers.
  • Communicate with the regular classroom teacher and/or school administration regarding student progress or concerns.
  • Ensure the classroom is left clean and organized at the end of the day.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Compensation: Daily and hourly rates are based on licensure status:
  • Without a Colorado Department of Education (CDE) License: $155/day (approx. $19.38/hour)
  • With a CDE Substitute Teacher License: $165/day (approx. $20.63/hour)
  • With a CDE Teacher License: $180/day (approx. $22.50/hour)
  • Colorado PERA Retirees: $190/day (approx. $23.75/hour)

Please note: This is an on-call, as-needed position. We are unable to guarantee a minimum number of hours or days per week.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • A valid Colorado Department of Education Substitute Authorization or Teacher License preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to follow lesson plans effectively.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and student needs.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude toward teaching and student engagement.
