Job description

PROJECT MANAGEMENT ANALYST SKILLBRIDGE INTERN

Location: Newport News, Virginia, United States

Date: Jul 20, 2026

US Citizenship Required: Yes

Employment type: Unpaid internship, Full‑time, First shift. No relocation assistance. Not eligible for telework. No travel required.

Clearance not required to start.

The Role

This is an UNPAID internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program for transitioning active‑duty US military personnel. HVN SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active‑duty military personnel gain real‑world experience in the workforce during their final 180 days of active‑duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and senior company leadership. Newport News Shipbuilding Internship programs focus on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, education, and military training similar to their current or previous military jobs and could transition into a full‑time permanent position with Newport News Shipbuilding.

Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client‑satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem‑solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

  • Develop a good understanding of OCC support and basic submarine fundamentals.
  • Familiarize and utilize various web‑based tools; SAP, Microsoft Office applications, logistic support, etc.
  • Basic understanding of AWP integration, NNS planning, and material tracking.
  • Collaborate/coordinate with team members to resolve problems and meet mission requirements.
  • Monitor vendor cost and performance against schedule and contracts.
  • Develop understanding of SUBSAFE processes pertaining to Reentry Certifications (REC) tracking and problem resolutions.
Must Have

Active‑Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active‑duty service. Transitioning Military candidates can begin applying within the final 12 months of military service. Education and experience are dependent on the Program of Instruction.
