Job description

Join our team as a Records Manager and support the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) headquarters office by managing the evaluation and lawful disposition of a large volume of government records. You will inventory records uncovered during FTA's move to DOT's West Building, apply federal records regulations to determine what's kept, transferred, or destroyed, and help FTA stay compliant while reducing storage risk.

**Position is contingent upon contract award**

Work Schedule and Location:On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm at FTA Headquarters in Washington, DC.


  • Inventory a large volume of government records identified during FTA's relocation to DOT Headquarters' West Building.
  • Perform records scheduling and appraisal in accordance with NARA regulations, the Federal Records Act, and DOT Order 1351.28.
  • Execute authorized disposition actions, including secure destruction of temporary records.
  • Prepare permanent historical records for transfer to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
  • Identify and mitigate data privacy and security risks associated with legacy records.
  • Help minimize FTA's physical and digital storage footprint through systematic, compliant recordkeeping practices.

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree (or qualifying education/experience substitution).
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in records management.
  • Working knowledge of NARA records management regulations and the Federal Records Act.
  • Demonstrated experience with records scheduling, appraisal, and disposition (including transfer to NARA and destruction of temporary records).

Desired: 

  • Familiarity with DOT Order 1351.28 and other DOT-specific records directives.
  • Experience managing records disposition during a large-scale office move or facility consolidation.
  • Experience identifying and remediating data privacy/security risk in legacy paper or digital record sets.
