Maintenance Manager

Location: Carol Stream, IL
Job Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $100,000–$110,000 annually

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead and develop the site maintenance team while ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment, utilities, and facility systems.

This leadership role will oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, equipment reliability, maintenance projects, CMMS activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Manager will partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Facilities, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams to improve plant safety, equipment uptime, productivity, and overall operational performance.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on maintenance leader with experience in a manufacturing environment, strong knowledge of industrial equipment and facility systems, and a proven ability to build a culture of safety, accountability, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, train, and develop the maintenance team while promoting employee engagement, technical development, and accountability.
  • Oversee daily maintenance operations, including preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, production support, and equipment installations.
  • Manage maintenance activities for production equipment, utilities, and facility systems to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Utilize CMMS systems to manage work orders, maintenance schedules, equipment records, preventive maintenance activities, and reporting.
  • Monitor and report maintenance KPIs, including equipment reliability, downtime, maintenance costs, safety performance, and cost savings initiatives.
  • Manage equipment, utility, and service contracts while identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Partner with Engineering, Facilities, Operations, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams on capital projects, equipment upgrades, facility improvements, and reliability initiatives.
  • Support and execute projects designed to improve productivity, safety, equipment reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Ensure maintenance activities align with applicable OSHA, GMP, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive maintenance, engineering, or facilities experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience leading, supervising, and developing maintenance teams in a production setting.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial equipment and systems, including electrical, mechanical, controls, HVAC, boilers, compressors, plumbing, welding, and utilities.
  • Experience developing and managing preventive maintenance programs.
  • Hands-on experience with CMMS systems, work order management, maintenance scheduling, and equipment records.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple maintenance projects and competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, GMPs, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent technical experience will be considered.
  • Food manufacturing or other regulated industry experience preferred.
