Job description

Field Reliability Technician
Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Department: Reliability Engineering
Shift: 1st with 50 % Travel
Position Summary
The Field Reliability Technician will perform fuel cell component and system testing, along with test support functions and maintenance for fuel cell system and component testing. This position requires a candidate with strong electrical and mechanical expertise with an uncompromising dedication to quality. The ideal candidate will have exceptional teamwork and communication skills. The Field Reliability Technician must be able to thrive in a fast-pace engineering environment and be capable of working in the field as needed, interacting with our customers and field services teams.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct experiments, gather data and perform basic investigations
  • Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and problem solving to diagnose system, sub-system, and ancillary component issues during the investigative process
  • Perform additional basic lab functions and tests as required
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of research findings and enter results in appropriate database
  • Travel up to 50% to customer sites to support the implementation of reliability processes, upgrades, or procedures.
  • Providing support service to customers and the plug field services team as required.
  • Maintaining inventory and transaction accuracy of special or modified systems, sub-systems, and/or components for testing and performance analysis
  • Travel as required for business needs; expected to drive safely and to adhere to all traffic laws
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions
  • Follow all environmental health and safety regulations in the course of work, compliance with all OSHA, State, and/or Customer Site specific standards/procedures
  • Maintain proper housekeeping to promote a safe and efficient workplace
  • Prepare materials for chemical experiments, conduct chemical experiments, and perform/oversee testing according to an investigative plan
  • Ability to read, interpret and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and assembly instructions
  • Must professionally communicate and collaborate with other Plug Power team members and supervisors
  • Train new lab technicians and write SOPs for training, as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associates or vocational degree is preferred
  • Two (2) or more years of related work experience in a technology manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, or related field
  • High degree of manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude
  • Comfort operating hand/power tools safely and efficiently
  • Ability to travel as needed to carry out duties of the position - up to 50%
  • Ability to work overtime as assigned and commit to a flexible work schedule around manufacturing demand
  • Ability to operate a computer and perform computer transactions accurately
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to stand and/or and sit for long periods of time in performance of job functions in freezer/cold and warehouse/hot environments
  • Must possess a valid driver license, a clean driving record, and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Quality focused and detail-oriented
  • Team player with a positive communication style
  • Must be capable of working independently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Superior communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including highly developed skills within Excel

Pay Rate:
$23.00 - $33.00
