This long-term role supports a major municipal utility infrastructure project focused on residential and commercial water systems. The Engineering Technician performs civil engineering quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities in the field and prepares daily reports for the project manager overseeing the water resources engineering group. The position offers the opportunity to work on critical water and wastewater infrastructure and to grow into a permanent role within the water resources team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering QA/QC inspections on utility infrastructure upgrades for residential and commercial water systems.
  • Conduct daily field activities related to water, wastewater, and water system utility engineering, including subsurface underground utility work.
  • Document field observations and test results accurately and submit detailed daily field reports to the project manager over the water resources engineering group.
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues that arise in the field, including mechanical and utility-related problems, and support repair activities as directed.
  • Use and learn civil engineering test equipment in the field, following established procedures and safety practices.
  • Collaborate closely with a small team of engineering technicians and a lead engineering technician to complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Arrive reliably and early to the job site each day, maintaining consistent attendance and dependability.
  • Adapt to changing field conditions and project needs while remaining open to training and new civil engineering techniques.
  • Support overall project goals by maintaining accurate records, communicating effectively with the team, and escalating issues to the lead technician or project manager when needed.

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities in a field engineering environment.
  • High level of reliability, including consistent, on-time arrival to job sites and dependable follow-through.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new civil engineering methods, procedures, and test equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude to support equipment use, basic repairs, and field adjustments.
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate daily field reports and communicate effectively with project leadership.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
