Overview

The Release Engineer will support the support production deployment and release management activities for a cloud-based platform leveraging Salesforce, AWS services, and API-driven integrations for the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) for Loan Guaranty Service (LGY). This role is responsible for coordinating and executing application and infrastructure releases, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring deployments are performed in a controlled, reliable, and compliant manner.

The DevOps Release Engineer will work closely with development, QA, operations, and infrastructure teams to manage environment promotions, deployment automation, and release governance across multiple environments. This role is critical to ensuring system stability, minimizing deployment risk, and maintaining consistency across integrated platforms.

The ideal candidate has experience working in Salesforce deployment pipelines, AWS environments, and API-based architectures, and is comfortable operating within structured change management and release governance frameworks.

Key Functions

  • Automate build, deployment, and environment provisioning processes.
  • Support the Release Manager during production deployments and environment promotions.
  • Maintain configuration management and version control practices.
  • Manage and execute end-to-end release processes across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Maintain and support CI/CD pipelines for Salesforce, AWS services, and API integrations.
  • Coordinate deployment activities including environment promotions, release scheduling, and stakeholder communication.
  • Support Salesforce deployments including metadata and configuration changes using automated pipeline tools.
  • Deploy and manage AWS-based components including Lambda functions, API Gateway configurations, and related services.
  • Validate release readiness, including testing completion, approvals, and rollback planning.
  • Monitor deployments and troubleshoot pipeline failures, deployment errors, and environment inconsistencies.
  • Ensure all releases comply with change management, security, and governance requirements.
  • Perform post-deployment validation to confirm successful releases and system stability.
  • Maintain release documentation, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with development and QA teams to ensure code is deployment-ready and properly tested.
  • Identify and implement improvements to automation, deployment efficiency, and release processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in DevOps, release engineering, or deployment management.
  • Experience managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps.
  • Experience supporting Salesforce deployments (metadata, environments, or pipeline tools).
  • Experience working with AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway, and cloud-based environments.
  • Experience supporting API-based integration platforms.
  • Strong understanding of version control systems (Git).
  • Experience working within change management and release governance processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications or Skills

  • Experience supporting federal government IT programs or VA systems.
  • Experience supporting federal government or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce DevOps tools such as Copado, Gearset, or AutoRABIT.
