Job description

Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer will support the project and design teams with varying degrees of direct project responsibilities while maintaining an in-depth knowledgebase of the electrical design requirements and processes. Project work will consist of leading the electrical engineering and design approach in collaboration with Senior Engineering Leads for projects across EV charging, electric utility, renewable energy, and telecommunications industries. The Electrical Engineer also assists with the delegation of assignments, resource allocation, and the oversight of quality and timeliness of deliverables. Advanced problem solving and analytics will be employed and shared with the team as well as mentorship and training.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform quality analysis and quality control for team of engineers in the production of electrical engineering design drawings, construction drawings, cost estimates and other contract documents across various industries
  • Strong understanding and ability to complete designs per NEC, NESC, NFPA 780, relevant IEEE publications, client standards, and local jurisdictional requirements
  • Perform engineering site surveys and/or collaborate with field crews
  • Electric Utility coordination for design of new service installations and upgrades
  • Ability to complete and review detailed power distribution designs for low and medium voltage systems, including but not limited to the following:
  • Complex single and three-line diagrams
  • Protection, control, and wiring schematics
  • Load analysis and panel schedules
  • Relay protection schemes
  • Duct bank designs including ampacity calculations
  • Short-circuit and protection coordination studies
  • Arc flash hazard analysis
  • Equipment specification and review
  • Generator Backup Systems
  • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
  • DC power plant and battery systems
  • EV charging designs for retail and fleet deployments
  • Battery energy storage system (BESS), solar photovoltaic (PV), and microgrid systems
  • Lighting protection and grounding electrode systems
  • Soil resistivity, fall-of-potential, and continuity testing
  • Electrical construction details
  • Interact with internal multi-disciplinary team members to expedite project completion and approvals
  • Maintain NB+C standards and templates
  • Evaluate designs for constructability
  • Perform, review, and approve electrical engineering deliverables and other construction contract documents with a high level of accuracy and strict attention to detail
  • Collaborate with NB+C team and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient, effective, and innovative approach to meet the client's needs
  • Provide guidance and training to junior engineering team members
  • Collaborate with Design Team Leads to identify and correct project performance issues
  • Assist the Senior Electrical Engineering Leads with the daily operations of the electrical engineering team

Qualification:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering required
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience required
  • EIT/PE preferred
  • Excellent teamwork
  • Self-motivated and results driven
  • Electrical engineering software experience required (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CYME, CYMCAP, PowerWorld, XGSLab, CDEGS, PLS-CADD, etc.)
  • AutoCAD or Microstation experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Extensive technical experience and knowledge in electrical engineering principles
  • Critical thinking and problem solving for complex designs
  • Ability to work autonomously without supervision required
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
