Position Overview

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Senior Nuclear Engineers to join AMPERAs advanced reactor development team. These engineers will play a critical role in the design, analysis, and validation of AMPERAs compact micro-reactor systems working at the intersection of nuclear physics, thermal-hydraulics, fuel systems, and materials science.
This position offers an opportunity to work on first-of-a-kind technology that combines fusion-fission hybrid principles, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing to deliver the worlds safest, most efficient nuclear energy systems.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead reactor system design and performance analysis using modern computational tools (e.g., MCNP, SCALE, RELAP5, OpenMC, or equivalent).
  • Develop, model, and validate neutron transport, heat transfer, and thermal-fluid interactions for micro-reactor cores.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the integration of fuel systems, control systems, and structural design.
  • Evaluate reactor safety through probabilistic risk assessment and transient simulation.
  • Support regulatory and licensing documentation for compliance with NRC, DOE, or DoD standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the nuclear design group.
  • Contribute to experimental testing programs and prototype validation.

Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in nuclear systems design, reactor analysis, or related R&D.
  • Expertise in neutronics, reactor physics, and/or thermal-hydraulics modeling.
  • Familiarity with safety codes and design standards (ASME, NRC, DOE, ANSI/ANS).
  • Experience with small modular reactors (SMRs), micro-reactors, or advanced reactor concepts preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligibility for security clearance may be required due to project sensitivity.
