Regulatory Strategy and Analytics Analyst Alabama Power Company - Regulatory Policy & Planning

This position will be located at APC Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL

POSITION SUMMARY

The position supports the development, analysis, and execution of regulatory strategies that support Alabama Power Company’s Regulatory Affairs performing strategic research, regulatory analytics, performance metrics. The position will apply data analysis techniques, visualization tools, generative AI, and analytical technologies to identify trends, automate research activities, improve workflow efficiency, and develop insights that support regulatory strategy. The position works closely with regulatory affairs, finance, operations, planning, marketing and customer service, economic development, power delivery and other business organizations to transform complex information into accurate, actionable, and defensible business insights.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, engineering preferred
  • MBA desirable
Experience, Knowledge, & Skills:
  • Data analytics modeling and interpretation experience is required
  • Experience performing quantitative and qualitative analysis, benchmarking, peer utility research, trend analysis, and performance metric evaluation is required
  • Experience working in (or in support of) utility regulatory frameworks, operations, financials, planning, and/or policy strongly preferred
  • Ability to translate business questions into analytical plans, dashboards, and clear decision-support insights
  • Experience developing reports, presentations, dashboards, analytical models, or business recommendations is preferred
  • Experience utilizing advanced AI technologies, including generative AI, natural language processing, intelligent assistants, or predictive analytics tools to conduct research, summarize information, automate workflows, analyze data, and support decision-making is preferred
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships within multiple departments to ensure appropriate levels of communication and cooperation and achievement of goals and objectives
  • Demonstrates accuracy, accountability, confidentiality, sound judgment, and attention to detail under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously and produce timely results in response to changing business needs
  • Strong communication skills
  • Familiarity with Alabama Power's regulatory framework, rate mechanisms including Rates RSE, CNP, state regulatory requirements, Alabama Public Service Commission (APSC) processes, and stakeholder expectations preferred
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Regulatory Strategy and Policy: Develop data analytics tools utilizing utility data to monitor emerging utility issues, policies, and trends; research their potential impacts; and help develop responsive regulatory strategies
  • Regulatory Compliance and Implementation: Support compliance with new regulatory requirements and coordinate implementation activities across affected business areas
  • Rate and Commission Proceedings: Support rate filings, clauses, adjustments, RSE and CNP activities, and related Commission engagement
  • Performance Metrics and Annual Reviews: Support development of annual metrics and facilitate annual reviews and meetings with the APSC and Attorney General’s Office
  • Research and Communication: Conduct peer utility and jurisdictional research and communicate relevant policy and regulatory insights to management and APSC staff
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Build and manage effective relationships with internal business partners and external regulatory stakeholders.
