Job DescriptionDuration will be approximately three months. Includes optional medical benefits, holiday pay and sick leave accrual.The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the Orthodontic faculty and residents with patient care.The assistant is responsible of the set up and cleaning up of the dental operatories, taking dental impressions (alignate and digital), taking x-rays, uploading records, sterilizing instruments, monitoring supplies, inventory, and assisting front desk with patient flow in clinic.
Clinical & Chairside Assisting- Assist Orthodontic residents and faculty with patient care, including exams and orthodontic procedures
- Provide chairside assistance during cementation of bands and brackets, debanding, and impressions
- Perform orthodontic procedures within the scope of RDA licensure
- Prepare operatories for examinations and orthodontic procedures
- Set up and break down operatories in accordance with clinic policies and procedures
- Set up instrument trays appropriate for each procedure
- Ensure all instrumentation is cleaned and sterilized per established infection control policies
- Maintain cleanliness of operatories and clinical areas
- Ensure operatories are fully stocked and replenish supplies as needed
Laboratory & Case Management- Track scans and impressions sent to laboratories
- Review patient schedules two weeks in advance to confirm receipt of lab cases prior to appointments
- Follow up on lab cases, including Invisalign cases
- Communicate with the Front Desk regarding rescheduling needs in advance
- Pour models and construct Essix retainers
- Maintain laboratory and stock room areas
Radiology- Take periapical, full-mouth panoramic, cephalometric radiographs, and 3D CBCT scans
- Perform radiology procedures in compliance with patient safety and exposure protocols
- Upload and download radiographic images into imaging systems
- Maintain radiology equipment and report any equipment issues
Records & Imaging Support- Upload photos, scans, and X-rays into imaging and aligner software
- Download and prepare patient records for release to the Front Desk
- Ensure accurate documentation and image management
Equipment & Supply Management- Order supplies as needed
- Perform scheduled equipment maintenance
- Report equipment failures promptly
Administrative & Team Support- Assist the Front Desk with patient flow as needed
- Maintain professional interpersonal relationships in alignment with UCSF PRIDE Values
- Support initiatives aligned with the School of Dentistry True North Strategic Vision, including participation in training and staying current with new equipment and technologies
- Perform other duties as assigned by clinic management
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. QualificationsRequired Qualifications:โข Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program
โข Current and active California Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license
โข California X-Ray Safety Certification
โข Current CPR/BLS certification
โข Experience taking radiographs on both pediatric and adult patients
โข Basic computer proficiency, including experience with imaging and dental software systems
โข Knowledge of infection control policies and procedures and HIPAA compliance requirements
โข Knowledge of maintenance and proper operation of dental equipment and instruments
โข Demonstrated reliability and consistent attendance
โข Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
โข Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
โข Ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively in a team-based setting
Preferred Qualifications:โข Minimum two (2) years of experience working as an RDA in an orthodontic dental practice
