Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (IR RN) for a travel nursing assignment in Chico, California.

This position is ideal for an RN with at least 2 years of recent Interventional Radiology nursing experience who is comfortable supporting minimally invasive image-guided procedures, administering and monitoring procedural sedation, and providing pre- and post-procedure patient care.

The IR RN will work closely with interventional radiologists, imaging technologists, anesthesia professionals, and other members of the procedural care team to ensure safe and efficient patient care.

Candidates must have an active California RN license, current CPR/BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, along with previous Epic experience.

Key Responsibilities

        Provide nursing care to patients before, during, and after interventional radiology procedures.

        Perform comprehensive pre-procedure assessments.

        Review medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory values, and required documentation.

        Verify procedure orders, consent, patient identity, and procedural site.

        Prepare patients for image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

        Establish and maintain IV access as needed.

        Administer medications and procedural sedation according to provider orders and facility protocols.

        Continuously monitor patients receiving moderate or procedural sedation.

        Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythm, oxygen saturation, respiratory status, pain level, and level of consciousness.

        Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.

        Assist physicians during interventional radiology procedures within RN scope of practice.

        Maintain patient safety throughout invasive and minimally invasive procedures.

        Provide post-procedure recovery and monitoring.

        Assess vascular access and procedural sites for bleeding, hematoma, or other complications.

        Provide pain and nausea management following procedures.

        Determine patient readiness for discharge or transfer based on established clinical criteria.

        Educate patients and families regarding procedures, recovery expectations, medications, and follow-up instructions.

        Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic.

        Participate in procedural time-outs and other patient-safety protocols.

        Follow infection-prevention, medication-safety, and regulatory requirements.

        Collaborate effectively with radiologists, technologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Required Experience

Candidates must have:

        Minimum 2 years of Interventional Radiology RN experience

        Recent procedural nursing experience

        Previous experience with procedural/moderate sedation

        Previous experience with post-procedure patient recovery

        Experience caring for patients undergoing invasive or image-guided procedures

        Recent experience using the Epic EMR system

        Strong patient assessment and monitoring skills

        Ability to recognize and respond quickly to procedural complications or changes in patient condition

Required Licensure & Certifications

Candidates must have:

        Active Registered Nurse license through the California Board of Registered Nursing

        Current CPR / BLS certification

        Current ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

        Current PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support

All required licenses and certifications must remain current throughout the assignment.

Preferred Clinical Experience

Strong candidates may also have experience with:

        Image-guided biopsies

        Drain placements

        Vascular access procedures

        Central venous catheter placement

        PICC-related procedures

        Angiography

        Embolization procedures

        Interventional oncology procedures
