Job description

The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, underwriting and coordinating the closing of complex, equipment, SBA, commercial real estate and business loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures.  This position requires connecting with people quickly in an outgoing, friendly manner. This position requires persuasive communication skills to gain interest and involvement of others in the work process and is an important aspect of the job. This position requires an extreme sense of urgency, combined with getting work done in complete, accurate detail and in accordance with company standards and policies. The motivation for this position comes from a strong sense of duty and a feeling of responsibility for completing work both quickly and correctly. A faster than average work pace is necessary, and follow-up of delegated work must be very thorough.  Decision making will be done with the ideas and advice of others, but always carefully and cautiously within the guidelines of established company policy. Selling ideas to others and the ability to train, teach and motivate a team are strong aspects of this position. Change is an ongoing occurrence of this job and must be approached conservatively and with the support and guidance of management.
Salary range: $80,080 - $180,825 annually, DOE
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
  1. Solicits, negotiates, underwrites, and coordinates the closing of complex consumer, residential, equipment, commercial building and business loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures.
  2. Engages in business development activities and solicitation of new business and is actively involved in instilling and maintaining a positive sales environment through education of the Bank’s products and services.
  3. Develop business checking and deposit relationships with customers and promote business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relationships and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services.
  4. Assists in attaining established Bank, region and branch goals through active participation in sales management and officer call programs, and is expected to provide leadership, training and support to less experienced loan officers and other staff members.
  5. Occasionally managerial duties perform in the absence of the Branch or Region Manager.
  6. Interviews prospective applicants and requests specified information related to loan or credit application and corresponds or re-interviews applicants to resolve questions regarding application information.
  7. Performs pre-qualification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within framework of Bank credit culture and current economic and industry trends.
  8. Gathers and analyzes all information necessary to present a financing request to Senior Management or Loan Committee for approval; meets with existing or potential customers; visiting sites of loans; negotiates loan terms and conditions; and approves loans within established lending limits or refers and recommends acceptance to the Chief Credit Officer or Loan Committee.
  9. Coordinates processing of approved loans; ensures loans are processed according to agreement, customer needs and conform to Bank lending policies; obtains sufficient information and/or documentation from customers; solves problems relative to processing and servicing of loans within his or her portfolio; and approves loan disbursements in accordance with agreements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or
ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner.  Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) or equivalent from a college or university; 5+ years related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  Work related experience should consist of a financial analyzing or lending background.  Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.
  • Advanced experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas.
  • Advanced experience, knowledge and training in all lending activities and terminology.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial, construction, real estate and consumer loan processing.
  • Advanced knowledge of related state and federal lending and compliance regulations, and other Bank lending policies.
  • Ability to develop marketing and business development skills with customers.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
