Job description

Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) to join our team. This role is essential in supporting surgical and critical care services by providing expert management of circulatory and respiratory support systems. This includes the operation and management of cardiopulmonary bypass and other advanced life-support technologies during surgical and emergency procedures. Such care includes performance of elective and emergency cardiopulmonary bypass, cardiac and respiratory assist, diagnostic measurement, and autologous blood salvage.

Primary Department, Division, or Unit:

Cardiovascular Surgery, UHS Wilson Medical Center

Work Shift and Schedule:

This is a per diem position, which means you will work on an as needed, agreed upon basis. Working hours will be assigned by your manager.

Compensation Range:

$72.10 - $108.15 per hour, depending on experience

This position is not eligible for benefits.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide total and partial cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) support and perform blood analysis in both elective and emergency situations for adult patients
  • Perform autologous blood salvage for elective and emergent procedures to support blood conservation efforts
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, maintaining availability to deliver perfusion services as needed
  • Assist with the placement, operation, and troubleshooting of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) counterpulsation devices
  • Conduct preliminary checks of all perfusion-related equipment in the operating room using accepted sterile techniques; assemble and prepare the heart-lung machine for safe and effective use
  • Utilize heparin management systems and Activated Clotting Time (ACT) testing to ensure appropriate anticoagulation prior to and during cardiopulmonary bypass

Position Qualifications

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor's Science Degree OR meet the requirements to be grandfathered by the NYS Office of Professions/NYS Department of Education with an active Perfusion license
  • Must be eligible for the NYS Department of Education Perfusionist license
  • Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) credential from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP), or eligibility to obtain certification

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Perfusion
