Job description

WRA is currently seeking an experienced Water Resources Engineer in our Fairfax, VA office. This position will work with other Virginia regions as well.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Hydrologic/hydraulic (H/H) studies and drainage
  • Stormwater management (SWM) and erosion/sediment control (ESC) design primarily for transportation projects
  • Performing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) watershed analysis and modeling for river mechanics / Floodplain Studies
  • Preparation or modification of drainage design on CADD drawings/ construction plan documents
  • Water quality, quantity, design per VA DEQ regulations
  • Storm sewer system design and profiles
  • Erosion and sediment control design
  • Bridge/culvert hydraulics and design, including scour analysis

Other duties may include performing GIS based project background mapping, utilization of H&H modeling software, technical report preparation, and construction cost estimating. Some field work may be required;, therefore, the candidate will need a vehicle or access to transportation for this position.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Must have 11 - 15 years of relevant experiences
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • VDOT Hydraulics, Erosion Sediment Control design experience a must
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic stream analysis including scour analysis
  • Stormwater Management design and plan experience
  • Permit Drawings experience
  • FEMA FIS Flood Study CLOMR/LOMR experience and experience coordinating submittals for reviews and final approval.
  • Various Hydraulic Engineering Circulars (HEC’s) for scour, stream and bank stability, roadway stability and stream scour/stability countermeasure design including but not limited to HEC-18, HEC-20 and HEC-23
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience as a Hydraulics Discipline Lead or a goal to work towards becoming a Discipline Lead
  • Development of complete contract advertisement documents including plans, engineers estimate, bid quantities and contract standard specifications and project special provisions.
