ABOUT PARKWAY-ROCKWOOD COMMUNITY ED: Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed is a partnership of the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts that provides high-quality programs and services that enhance the quality of life for residents. POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of the Community Ed team, the Community Ed instructor provides instruction and supervision for assigned programs for youth, families and adults. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide instruction to participants for assigned programs, which can include working with individuals with special needs to provide accommodations or other needed support.
  • Design program and write program curriculum or instruct program according to provided curriculum as required.
  • Communicate with participants and families as needed.
  • Ensure safety of participants in program.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor.
  • Promote Community Ed by interacting and communicating positively with program participants.
  • Lead or assist with set-up and clear-up of program as needed.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping records.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILIITIES:
  • Must work well as part of a team and individually.
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to visually and audibly supervise program participants.
  • Ability to judge when situations and/or information should be called to the attention of supervisor.
  • Ability to access all work locations within and outside the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts.
  • If working in an outdoor program, ability to navigate uneven or hilly terrain as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as required.
  • Ability to bend, twist, lift and manipulate equipment, supplies and mail.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the program area being instructed.
  • Experience working with children, family and adults in a caring manner preferred.
  • Previous experience working with community and/or school-based programs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspaces and Microsoft Office software.
EQUIPMENT USED:
  • General office equipment.
  • Equipment necessary for execution of program/event.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Within assigned indoor and outdoor locations within and outside the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts, which may include during inclement weather.
  • While performing duties of this job, employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand and reach.
Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed is a self-funded department and is not funded through the district's general operating budget. All positions are contingent upon the ongoing financial viability of the Community Ed program.
