Salary Range: $120,000 to $135,000

The Refractory Project Manager & Estimator is responsible for overseeing refractory installation and maintenance projects from bid through completion. This role combines technical estimating expertise with project management responsibilities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of refractory materials, industrial processes, and field execution.
ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Pre-Constructionโข Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for refractory projects
โข Perform quantity take-offs for refractory materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors
โข Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
โข Develop detailed proposals, scopes of work, and project schedules
โข Participate in bid reviews and client presentations as needed
Project Managementโข Manage projects from award through closeout, including planning, execution, and financial performance
โข Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasts
โข Coordinate with clients, field crews, subcontractors, and internal teams
โข Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements
โข Monitor job progress, productivity, and quality of installation
Field & Technical Oversightโข Provide technical guidance on refractory installation methods, materials, and best practices
โข Conduct site visits, pre-job walks, and project meetings
โข Staffing and development of the refractory crews
โข Support troubleshooting and problem-solving in the field
โข Ensure proper documentation of work performed, including reports and change orders
Financial & Contract Managementโข Track project costs, manage budgets, and maintain profitability
โข Prepare and manage change orders and billing
โข Review contracts and ensure compliance
โข Support project closeout, including final cost analysis and documentation
QualificationsEducation & ExperienceโขBachelorโs degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field
experience(preferred)โข5+ years of experience in refractory, industrial construction, or related field
โขExperience in both estimating and project management strongly preferred
Technical SkillsโขStrong understanding of refractory materials (brick, castable, ceramic fiber, etc.)
โขExperience in industrial environments (metals, power, cement, glass, petrochemical, etc.)
โขAbility to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
โขProficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
