Airswift is looking for a Safety Advisor/Permit Writer to work for a major O&G company in Channahon, IL, for an initial 12-months assignment.
Role Context
This position is based in a refinery and chemical complex, supporting safety, health, and environmental activity across project and construction settings. The work includes practical field engagement, safety oversight, and direct support to teams operating in a technically demanding environment.
About the Role
The Safety Advisor/Permit Writer is responsible for providing safety and health support to the site leadership team and the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Contractor's organization. The role contributes to the implementation of the Safety Management System and supports safety objectives through field-based activity, risk awareness, and practical safety solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide ongoing support to proponent organizations in implementing the Safety Management System and meeting safety objectives and expectations.
  • Assist with safety processes related to risk assessment and management, safety training, asset integrity, safe operations, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, and incident investigations.
  • Conduct field inspections of facilities, project construction sites, drilling rigs, and support facilities, identifying safety concerns and supporting corrective actions.
  • Participate in safety studies and activities including PHAs, HAZOPs, JSAs, incident investigations, compliance reviews, and insurance surveys.
  • Write permits and conduct gas testing.
  • Support safe project execution in an environment that requires strong field awareness and practical decision-making.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated work experience in construction safety-related positions, including some prior oil & gas experience.
  • In depth knowledge of security processes and procedures.
  • Proficient in use of computers and programs such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Microsoft Office.
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, as required to function effectively within a project team.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver excellence in project SSHE performance.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience working in refinery environments.
