POSITION SUMMARY

The Marathon PetroleumSalt Lake City Refinery is seeking highly motivated Operators to join our team. Refinery Operators work together to monitor, regulate, troubleshoot, and safely operate complex process equipment. Operators refine crude oil and other feedstocks into transportation fuels, such as conventional gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and other petroleum products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operators are responsible for monitoring units under their control while keeping product specs and yields at a maximum. Must be able to startup and shutdown the units and safely operate during process upsets, power failures and mechanical failure. With knowledge of the process units, must be able to aid other unit operators in their training and day-to-day operation. Other primary responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and monitoring the outside equipment and control functions involved in the Refinery processes.

  • Gathering data from these functions and analyzing and interpreting it into proper action as operational adjustments or recommendations.

  • Possessing an in-depth knowledge of the physical portion of the plant.

  • Operators are expected to be able to wear all protective equipment including.

  • self-contained breathing apparatus along with the ability to participate in emergency response activities.

Operators work in a safety-sensitive environment and must successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol/medical screenings, and a background check. To ensure safe operations, new hires must also successfully complete operator qualification training and participate in random drug & alcohol screenings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.

  • Willing and able to work 12-hour rotating shift schedule including weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime.

  • Willing and able to climb ladders and work at heights.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time, indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Process Tech, Technical/Chemical, Power Plant Technology or related field.

  • 2+ years' experience as a process operator in the petrochemical or related industry.

  • Good mechanical aptitude, oral and written communication skills, and ability to make sound decisions.

  • Ability to perform well in a team environment working with little supervision to prioritize daily work schedules depending on operational requirements.

  • Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.

Physical Requirements

Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces, while climbing, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance and working in confined spaces.

Pay and Benefits

  • Pay range is between $40.27 and $52.95 per hour with highly competitive benefits including:

  • Annual Bonus plan that applies to all annual eligible earnings with a target of 6% - 12% of your annual income.

  • 401k plan with Company match of 7% on 6% employee contribution.

  • Cash balance pension plan of 7%, 9%, 11% depending on age and years of service.

  • Paid vacation, sick and holidays - 3 weeks of vacation, 7 sick days and 10 paid holidays.

Schedule

The Refinery operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Refinery Operators work on a DuPont Day/Night, 12-hour rotating shift schedule, with some overtime required.

About Marathon's Salt Lake City Refinery: Salt Lake City Refinery began operations in 1908 and is now the largest in Utah with a total crude-oil capacity of 66,000 barrels per day (bpd). The refinery processes crude oil from Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Canada to manufacture gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, heavy fuel oils and liquefied petroleum gas. These products are distributed through a system of terminals and pipelines, primarily to markets in Utah, Idaho, and eastern Washington, with some products delivered to Nevada and Wyoming. The refinery also supplies jet fuel to the Salt Lake City International Airport.
