Duties and Responsibilities As a Librarian, Branch Manager, you'll lead a dynamic team dedicated to providing exceptional library services, programs, and outreach to a diverse community. You'll help shape the vision for your branch, support staff development, and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. You'll serve as both a leader and collaborator-managing daily operations, mentoring staff, and ensuring the library remains a vital hub of learning, connection, and discovery.
Your responsibilities may include: Overseeing daily branch operations, ensuring smooth workflows, responsive service, and a positive patron experience Supervising, coaching, and evaluating staff; fostering professional growth and a collaborative team culture Planning, supporting, and promoting engaging programs for all ages in collaboration with staff and community partners Acting as a liaison to local organizations, schools, and neighborhood groups to strengthen community connections Managing the branch collection, including selection, weeding, and merchandising of materials Serving as the primary point of contact for customer concerns, policy enforcement, and safety issues Monitoring facility needs and coordinating with appropriate departments for maintenance and improvements Providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service and modeling service excellence for staff Staying informed about library trends, technologies, and best practices-and guiding your team through change Contributing to system-wide initiatives, strategic planning, and service innovations Supporting budget planning and resource allocation to meet community and branch priorities As Branch Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping not only your library's daily operations, but also its lasting impact on the community. To succeed in this role, you'll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English.
Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key-along with a willingness to grow and learn. Spanish language skills are a plus. Education, Experience, Licensing What We're Looking For: Minimum Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited graduate library school program, or a closely related field Two (2) years of experience in a library, customer service, or a closely related field Preferred: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a professional librarian Two (2) years of related library experience Two (2) years of supervisory experience A valid driver's license with a good driving record Supplemental Information Work Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly, with variable hours that may include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays Location Flexibility: Employees may be reassigned temporarily or permanently to other locations in the system based on operational needs Team Culture: You'll be part of a dedicated team that values collaboration, continuous learning, and outstanding service-both to the public and to one another.
