Job description

We're looking for an enthusiastic Group Fitness Instructor that will be leading our signature club classes and delivering a high energy, motivating music-inspired workout that our members to achieve their fitness goals in our JOHN REED club in Downtown Los Angeles. Your role will report to and receive guidance from the Club Manager and Member Experience Manager.


  • Instruct group fitness classes of up to 40 people, and motivate members while leading them through a safe, coordinated, and dynamic workout experience.
  • All eligible Fitness Instructor candidates must attend an audition, to demonstrate instructor tone, teaching presence, and musicality/rhythmic awareness. (Please note, JOHN REED has a very prominent Music Culture, and this must be translated in the programming, and instruction of all classes offered - musicality is a necessary skill).
  • Following auditions, Instructors will attend program trainings and teach-backs to ensure confidence, consistency, and excellence for teaching each program offering you are eligible for, including Cycle, Strength, Cardio, Pilates, Yoga, and Barre.
  • Empower and educate members with a clear understanding of the science and purpose of their workout, and be able to courteously, and positively offer instantaneous progressions and regressions of movement to accommodate all fitness levels.
  • Monitor member satisfaction to ensure a consistently evolving world class fitness experience, echoing the brand values.
  • Develop positive relationships with members inside and outside of your workout classes.
  • Be willing to know all safety contingencies and accommodations in club, regarding COVID-19.
  • Consistently look for current and new trends in the fitness industry to elevate members fitness techniques.
  • Support the Club Manager and Member Experience Manager as a strategic team player within the team.
  • Minimum of 2 years group fitness training experience, in a fitness environment.
  • Degree in field preferred (Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, or Sport Management).
  • Enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable regarding the fitness industry.
  • Able to interact in a positive and professional way with members, exceeding the member's expectations.
  • Nationally Certified Group Training Certificate (NCCA) must be current or obtained.
  • CPR/AED Certification must be current or obtained.
  • Must flexible and able to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Organized and structured, coupled with a warm and friendly nature.
  • Must be able to lift upward of 50lbs.
  • Must be able to climb and descend stairs multiple times a day.
