Job description

We have an immediate opening for a Lead Commercial Garage Door Technician Service Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter in our Fort McMurray Branch. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Lead Commercial Service Journeyman Carpenter will assist on install and service of sectional, high-speed and rolling steel doors, dock levelers, restraints and operators, Site preparation, material handling, staging and tool control, progressively take on set-out, anchorage and assembly work appropriate to level, Complete service documentation and daily FLHA, Log apprenticeship hours and technical training toward Red Seal certification. This role is a permanent, full-time position. There is the possibility of on call and overtime.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Service/Installation Industry
  • Experience in carpentry Journeyman Red Seal
  • Experience in related trades(i.e. construction, welding, millwright etc.)
  • CDI Certification is an asset but not a requirement
  • Relevant safety training and tickets are an asset (such as OSSA Fall Protection, OSSA Elevated Work Platform, Standard First Aid, CSTS, BSO)
  • Experience servicing/installing overhead doors is strongly preferred
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to work outside in all different weather conditions, including cold and extreme heat. Lifting, pulling, climbing, standing, sitting, lying down, squatting and kneeling and managing equipment and tools required
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements including background check, drug, alcohol and health assessment
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clean drivers abstract
  • New hire candidates will be required to provide a current Driver's Abstract from the province in which the position is located, at their own cost
  • Possessing resourcefulness, integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to work in a team environment
  • Above average mechanical aptitude

Responsibilities:

  • Assist on install and service of sectional, high-speed and rolling steel doors, dock levelers, restraints and operators.
  • Site preparation, material handling, staging and tool control.
  • Progressively take on set-out, anchorage and assembly work appropriate to level.
  • Complete service documentation and daily FLHA.
  • Log apprenticeship hours and technical training toward Red Seal certification.
  • D&A Testing for site access or post incident
  • Championing safety standards with a strong safety mindset
  • Working with hand tools, electric tools, lifts, and ladders
  • Maintain a professional manner during regular interaction with warehouse staff, construction Project Managers, customers, other trades, and safety personnel
  • Focus on quality workmanship
  • Wearing a hard hat and other PPE as required is mandatory for this safety sensitive role.
  • Provide guidance to helpers in learning the skill
  • Providing Service, and diagnose problems, provide solutions, and carry out required work on overhead doors
  • Regularly communicate and coordinate with the scheduler on problem solving, provide solutions and required parts if needed.
  • Welding for installation or repair if required
  • Effectively assess job scope at the beginning of each job and note any discrepancies to your scheduler immediately- ie: product warranty, site conditions, and safety
  • Out of town travel for installation and service work, not limited to weekdays- without notice
  • Provide estimates for how many person-hours are required for a service call, and the cost to fix versus replace doors
  • The ability to transport product on trailers and manlifts (on trailers) to and from sites safely
  • Complete all required paperwork daily and submitted on time at the end of each work day- ie: timesheets, FHLA's, job workorder with clear notes and part #'s
  • If needed, on the on-call rotation for Service
  • Accountable to making sure safety training and tickets are up to date and valid- clearly communicate to scheduler on required renewals- such as Fall Protection, OSSA Elevated Work Platform, Standard First Aid, CSTS, etc)
  • Daily attendance and punctuality
  • Other duties as assigned
