POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Provide group and private swimming lesson instruction to all ages and abilities under the general supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor.
DUTIES:
  • Work shifts as a Swim Instructor in group and/or private lesson settings and follows the expectations of the position.
  • Hold productive and engaging lessons for participants of all ages and abilities following a provided curriculum. Keep accurate and timely records and program plans of all lessons.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly facility and program supplies. Inspect lesson area regularly and report any unsafe conditions/equipment immediately.
  • Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforce aquatic facility rules and regulations.
  • Address medical and behavioral concerns with parents and program supervisor.
  • Maintain open professional communication with guests, participants and/or participants parents.
  • Notify participants, parents and program coordinator of canceled classes, and arrange for make-ups due to cancelations.
  • Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including abiding to uniform requirements.
  • Maintain personal physical endurance and agility necessary to perform job functions.
  • Rescue swimmers in distress and respond to incidents around the entire aquatic facility immediately. Provide care to the best of your ability within the level of your training/qualifications.
  • Assist in completing incident reports.
  • Must work as a lifeguard, if certified, when needed.
  • Complete additional duties assigned by supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
  • Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (preferred).
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Pre-employment testing of swimming ability, teaching skills and lesson demonstration.
  • Ability to work as an individual and within the framework of a team.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Instructor I: Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and six months experience.
  • Instructor II: Certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and one (1) year of experience.*
  • Instructor III: WSI and three (3) years of experience.*
*Must be able to provide record of lessons taught/lesson plans with ages and abilities of participants.
RATE OF PAY:
Contingent - Paraprofessional
Salary commensurate with experience and employment commitment.
  • Instructor I: Minimum Wage - $20
  • Instructor II: $20.50-22.00
  • Instructor III: $22.50-25.00
