Healthcare for Kids Inc. provides services for children while receiving ongoing care that cannot easily be provided due to family and friends scheduling limitations.

General Purpose of Position

The Driver is responsible for the safe transport of children to and from their home to a PPECC setting.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Transport assigned children/individuals to/from a designated location, following a pre-planned

route to/from HCK Pediatric Care Centers in a safe and professional manner.

  • Operates the vehicle cautiously and in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safe loading and unloading of passengers.
  • Responsible for safely securing children in approved AAP car seats.
  • Knowledge of wheelchair lift and operation and safely secures individuals in wheelchairs.

  • Regulates heating and air conditioning equipment for comfort of individuals.
  • Works cohesively with medical escort to assist in an emergency on the vehicle as needed.
  • Completes all paperwork required by HCK or Transportation Broker (if applicable)
  • Completes daily inspection and vehicle checks/reports to maintain the vehicle.
  • Reports all problems or required maintenance to the Administrator.
  • Assures the bus meets regular maintenance schedules.
  • Report accidents immediately to the Administrator.
  • Maintains vehicle in a clean & sanitary manner. Completes vehicle cleaning as needed.
  • Disinfects care seats at the end of each route daily.
  • Maintains & updates Transportation Notebook.
  • Completes all required training & education upon hire and annually.
  • Must self-report any change in driverโ€™s license status, traffic citations etc. to Supervisor.
  • Assists the medical escort in an emergency.
  • Must maintain required and ongoing assigned continuing education.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Valid State Driverโ€™s License required.
  • Clean driving record
  • Must be able to pass background screen and drug screen
  • Previous driving experience
  • Reliable and punctual
  • AHA or Red Cross approved BLS CPR

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speaking for the exchange of information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to differentiate bodily noises and/or hear warnings, faulty equipment, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of 0 to 25 lb.
  • Frequent reaching and grasping.
  • Frequent use of vision for close (20 inches or less) and long (20 feet or more) distances, as well as the ability to detect and differentiate colors.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, and squatting, as well as repeated foot/leg and hand/arm motions.
  • Use of eyesight sometimes to determine distances and spatial connections.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of 25-50 lb.
  • Occasional patient lifting and moving.
  • Occasional reliance on scent to detect and identify smells.
  • Frequent driving.
