Red Blood Cells are biological components within blood responsible for oxygen transport, whereas Phlebotomists are healthcare professionals who draw blood samples for testing. While Red Blood Cells are part of the blood, Phlebotomists handle the collection process. Both are essential in medical diagnostics but serve different functions within the healthcare industry.

What are red blood cells?

Red blood cells, also known as erythrocytes, are specialized cells in the blood that carry oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and organs. They contain a protein called hemoglobin, which binds to oxygen and gives the cells their red color. Red blood cells also help remove carbon dioxide from the body by transporting it back to the lungs for exhalation. These cells are produced in the bone marrow and typically live for about 120 days.

Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), automated analyzers, and quality control protocols is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this role.
