Job description

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The Head Women's Soccer Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer program, including the recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes, coaching, student-athlete development, budget management, alumni and community engagement, and compliance with NCAA, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), and institutional policies. The Head Coach is expected to foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture that supports the mission of Edgewood University Athletics while emphasizing academic achievement, personal growth, leadership, and competitive excellence.
Athletics plays an important role in the life of the University, including enhancing the learning experience for student-athletes, creating opportunities to unite the campus community, publicly demonstrating the University's values and mission, and contributing to the achievement of institutional goals. The position is responsible for short- and long-term program planning that supports the University's Mission and Vision and strictly adheres to NCAA, NACC, and institutional rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Program Leadership and Student-Athlete Development
  • Lead all aspects of the Women's Soccer program in a manner consistent with the mission and values of Edgewood University and Edgewood University Athletics.
  • Develop a team culture centered on accountability, respect, teamwork, communication, and competitive excellence.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct productive practice sessions, team meetings, conditioning sessions, and competitions.
  • Teach technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of soccer that foster individual and team growth.
  • Prepare student-athletes for high levels of NCAA Division III and NACC competition.
  • Support the academic, personal, leadership, and career development of each student-athlete.
  • Model and foster appropriate sportsmanship, competitiveness, humility, and professionalism.
  • Work collaboratively with Athletic Training, Athletic Performance, Academic Success, Student Affairs, and other campus partners to support student-athlete well-being and success.
  • Develop annual competitive goals and evaluate program progress and success.

Recruiting and Enrollment Management
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive recruiting strategy to identify, attract, and enroll academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with prospective student-athletes, parents and guardians, high school coaches, club coaches, alumni, and other recruiting influencers.
  • Partner closely with the Admissions Office throughout the recruiting process.
  • Utilize departmental recruiting software, CRM systems, and appropriate communication tools to manage recruiting activity.
  • Maintain roster numbers consistent with departmental expectations, program needs, and institutional enrollment goals.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes who contribute positively to the program, department, and University community.
  • Foster retention through an exceptional student-athlete experience.

Program Administration
  • Manage the program operating budget, booster budget, and related financial activity in accordance with departmental and institutional policies.
  • Coordinate scheduling, team travel, equipment, apparel, facility needs, and game-day operations in collaboration with Athletics staff.
  • Supervise assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student managers, student assistants, and other team personnel.
  • Complete required administrative responsibilities accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with fundraising, alumni engagement, and program support initiatives in collaboration with Athletics and Advancement.

Compliance Oversight
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of NCAA Division III, NACC, and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Ensure the Women's Soccer program operates in full compliance with all applicable rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Educate assistant coaches, student-athletes, boosters, alumni, and parents or guardians regarding applicable NCAA, NACC, and institutional expectations.
  • Complete required compliance documentation and reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Promote a culture of integrity and accountability within the program.

Community Engagement and Alumni Relations
  • Develop and foster community relationships that benefit the Women's Soccer program, Athletics Department, and University.
  • Facilitate team involvement in meaningful community service and campus engagement opportunities.
  • Complete at least one community service project with the Women's Soccer team each year and participate in at least one Athletics Department community service project.
  • Expand the program's supporters, alumni connections, and campus and community visibility.
  • Assist in developing, fostering, and maintaining practice and competition venue relationships.
  • Represent the University and Athletics Department at departmental, institutional, alumni, and community events.

Other Duties
  • Attend Athletics Department staff meetings, team and individual meetings, and other institutional meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in university-wide committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned.
  • Support Athletics Department events, including the annual golf outing, Hall of Fame, Athletics Awards Ceremony, and other departmental initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Collegiate coaching and/or recruiting experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain successful student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to NCAA Division III philosophy and student-athlete development.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Head coaching experience preferred.
  • Experience using recruiting software, CRM systems, and video analysis platforms preferred.
  • Experience building relationships with high school, club, alumni, and community partners preferred.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and relationship-building skills.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  • Ability to relate effectively to a diverse population of students, colleagues, alumni, families, and community members.
  • Understanding of and ability to support the Edgewood University Mission and Values.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet institutional driving requirements.

Technology Skills
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office 365 platform.
  • Comfortable using recruiting CRM systems, such as Slate or equivalent platforms.
  • Comfortable using video analysis and scouting software, such as HUDL or equivalent platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media platforms appropriately and effectively for program communication and promotion.
