Position Summary
The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking a Recreation Assistant who will monitor a recreation facility or other municipal recreation activities as assigned. The candidate will assist in organizing and coordinating various segments of municipal recreation programs and services. The person within this classification serves at assigned municipal recreation facilities or assigned recreation program and works in accordance with established guidelines, policies, procedures and instructions. The Recreation Assistant will provide assistance in recreational and educational activities and programs and special events. Work assignments could vary daily based on operational needs. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Monitors a recreation facility and activities during assigned hours.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, promoting and administering diversified recreational and social activities and programs, in assigned areas, while maintaining order and discipline.
  • Issues equipment to participants and is responsible for care and return.
  • Maintains involvement in various phases of a variety of municipal recreation activities including environmental education, social, athletic, arts, special events and other recreational programs and services.
  • Prepares reports and maintains simple records.
  • Opens and closes the recreational programming facilities according to established events and program schedules.
  • Collects registrations and monies from participants registering for programs or attending programs; maintains appropriate records regarding registrations and monies received.
  • Checks in registered participants and guests to the facility; performs data entry tasks in entering registered and new participants in scheduled programs.
  • Assists in supporting appropriate staffing initiatives; assists where needed to ensure programs are conducted in accordance with established time frames.
  • Monitors participants' actions and activities to ensure adherence to standard and established safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and operating requirements.
  • Performs routine custodial and maintenance work about the area in maintaining clean and safe facilities and in care and maintenance of equipment; may include parking meter maintenance.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding program specifics from various entities, e.g., parents, program participants, children, program staff and the public.
  • Assists and attends meetings.
  • Assists with establishing and organizing departmental programs, schedules and filing systems.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks requiring use of standard automated office systems, e.g., computers,

telephones, facsimile machines, photocopiers, calculators, adding machines.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

Qualifications
What's required: (Minimum Requirements)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and must maintain it throughout employment without any restrictions affecting job requirements. If the driver's license is out of state, you must be able to obtain a Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)
  • One (1) year previous experience working with children
  • Previous experience working in municipal parks, schools, specific sports, arts, or aquatic programs
  • Available to work flexible hours Monday - Friday 4 pm - 9 pm. weekends from 9 am - 6 pm, sometimes up to 1:00 am depending on rentals. Days may vary as needed
