THE ROLE:

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Recreational Therapist in planning, organizing, and facilitating therapeutic recreational activities for patients.
  • Support group activities designed to promote socialization, emotional wellness, coping skills, and community integration.
  • Prepare activity materials, equipment, and treatment areas prior to scheduled programs.
  • Encourage patient participation and engagement in recreational and therapeutic activities.
  • Monitor patient behavior during activities and promptly report concerns or significant observations to clinical staff.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment at all times.
  • Escort and supervise patients during on-unit and approved off-unit recreational activities as assigned.
  • Assist with documenting attendance, participation levels, and activity outcomes.
  • Help implement individualized activity plans under the direction of the Recreational Therapist.
  • Maintain inventory of recreation supplies and notify supervisors when materials need replenishment.
  • Set up and clean activity areas before and after programs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support patient treatment goals.
  • Follow facility policies, safety procedures, infection-control standards, and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Establish positive, professional relationships with patients while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior work/life experiences, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Prior experience preferably with related software applications.
  • Must be able to plan, organize, and conduct a variety of activities
  • Basic computer literacy and skills.
  • Must possess an active state driver’s license.
  • Must be 21 or older
