Job description

Company Background:
Ownwell has developed a leading end-to-end property tax solution that is purpose-built for SFR and CRE investors, operators, and property managers. We have brought Data Science and Machine Learning to a space that is ripe for disruption. We combine a best-in-class technology stack with local market expertise to reduce expenses, increase Net Operating Income, and drive operational efficiency for both our institutional clients and individual homeowners. Ownwell's solution ensures you have the necessary tools, resources, and information to confidently manage your property taxes.
Ownwell has been recognized both in Austin and Nationally, as a top workplace by the likes of Fortune, BuiltIn, Inc, and Best Places To Work. We are well-funded and venture-backed by some of the best investors in the world such as First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners. Our customer base has grown by more than 300% year-over-year with exceptional feedback demonstrating clear product market fit. We are looking for driven and passionate team members who thrive in a collaborative, positive culture where we all win together. If this sounds like the place for you, come help us change the way everyday homeowners manage their real estate across the country.
Our Culture
People are our superpower! Centered in everything we do is a true sense of team. We listen and we learn from each other. We are on this rocketship together and embrace a fast-paced, truly collaborative environment. We are here to win as a team and as a company.
We've brought together General Appraisers, Certified Public Accountants, Property Tax Consultants, Data Scientists, PhDs, best-in-class customer support representatives, and more to deliver top results for our customers.
Our core values are our guiding principles in everything we do
  • Customer Obsession
  • Take Ownership
  • Do The Right Thing
  • Go Far Together
  • Accelerate Innovation

The Role
Ownwell has grown rapidly across multiple product lines and geographies. As we've scaled, we need a dedicated owner for revenue recovery - someone to build the systems, processes, and customer touchpoints that ensure we collect on the value we're delivering.
We're looking for a Revenue Recovery Lead to focus 100% of their effort on collecting and ensuring timely revenue recovery. You'll inherit a playbook but come in and rewrite it, iterate, and improve it. You'll design the systems, talk to customers, evaluate tools, and define what "great" looks like.
This role reports directly to the CEO. It's high-visibility, high-autonomy, and high-impact. We're not looking for someone who's done collections the same way for 15 years. We're looking for an operator and builder who can learn collections fast, use modern tools (including AI) creatively, and treat every customer conversation as a chance to strengthen the relationship - not damage it.
What You'll Do
Build the foundation (first 90 days)
Stand up AR aging visibility from our current dashboards, reporting, and segmentation by product line and delinquency stage. Design and implement automated outreach workflows that respect the nuances of how and when our customers are billed. Evaluate and establish vendor relationships for late-stage recovery. Document dispute resolution processes and SLAs.
Own the motion (ongoing)
Talk to customers directly. Understand why people aren't paying, what's confusing, and what's broken in the experience - then feed that signal back to product and CX. Use AI tools aggressively to automate outreach, classify disputes vs. true delinquency, and reduce manual work. Build the measurement infrastructure: DSO, bad debt rates, recovery rates by channel and cohort. Own the compliance layer and make sure our approach is airtight. Develop the escalation framework from first reminder to write-off - these thresholds don't exist yet, and you'll create them.
Who You Are
A builder, not a maintainer. You've stood up a process, system, or function where one didn't exist before - collections, ops, RevOps, customer success, or something adjacent. You know the difference between building the plane while flying it and waiting for the blueprint.
An operator who executes with speed and creativity. You're the person whose previous managers had to slow down, not speed up. You move fast, iterate, and don't wait for permission.
AI-fluent and tool-curious. You actively use AI in your work today - not as a novelty, but as a core part of how you get more done. You're excited by the idea of automating an entire outreach sequence before lunch and spending the afternoon on the edge cases AI can't handle.
A great communicator who genuinely likes talking to people. A meaningful part of this role is engaging with customers who owe us money but also benefited from our services. That's a nuanced conversation. You handle it with empathy, clarity, and firmness.
Comfortable with ambiguity. The playbook doesn't exist. The reporting doesn't exist. Some of the tooling doesn't exist. That excites you more than it scares you.
Analytically strong. You're fluent in spreadsheets, comfortable in SQL or willing to learn it, and you make decisions with data.
Where You Might Come From
No single background is a perfect match for this role. But you'll ramp fastest if you've worked in one or more of these worlds: consumer tax resolution, personal injury or contingency-fee law firm operations, healthcare revenue cycle management, consumer lending or fintech, or high-growth startup operations where you were the "figure it out" person.
Collections-specific experience is a plus, not a requirement. We'd rather hire someone brilliant who learns collections in 90 days than someone who's been doing it the same way for a decade.
What Makes This Role Different
You're not collecting for a product people resent. Our customers already received value from us. The conversation starts from a fundamentally different place than traditional collections.
You report to the CEO. This isn't buried in finance. It's a strategic priority with direct executive support and authority.
You get to build. No existing team, no inherited process, no legacy system. Blank canvas with real resources.
AI is a first-class tool here. We expect you to use it and will give you the tools and budget to do so.
