Schuetz Container is expanding its focus on sustainable reverse logistics. Weโ€™re seeking a hands-on Sourcing Specialist to drive procurement of returns and end-of-life materials for reprocessing, recycling, and remanufacturing. This role blends strategic supplier development with day-to-day sourcing execution to optimize recovery value, cost-to-serve, and sustainability outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, identify, and qualify potential suppliers and partners for returns and end-of-life materials; conduct market analysis, create a qualified supplier base, and drive supplier discovery initiatives.
  • Source, qualify, and contract returns and end-of-life materials for reprocessing (recycling, refurbishing, or remanufacturing); evaluate bids, negotiate terms and awards, and maintain supplier agreements and SLAs.
  • Develop and manage reverse logistics programs, optimizing collection routes, consolidation points, and processing handoffs to maximize recovery value.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Compliance, and Finance to ensure material specs, quality gates, and cost targets align with processing capabilities.
  • Maintain supplier relationships and track performance via scorecards; conduct audits and ongoing risk assessments; drive continuous improvement and issue resolution.
  • Analyze data to drive improvements in return capture, yield, cycle time, and total cost-to-serve; identify opportunities for process and network optimization.
  • Monitor industry trends, commodity markets, regulatory changes, and competitor activity to maintain a competitive sourcing stance.
  • Identify cost savings or value-add opportunities, including process improvements, logistics optimization, and alternative material streams.
  • Ensure returners comply with RCRA and DOT requirements; manage regulatory compliance, proper handling, shipping documentation, and training as applicable.
  • Travel as needed to supplier sites, processing partners, or audit locations (approximately 10โ€“25%).

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field (required)
  • 5+ years of sourcing/procurement experience, ideally in reverse logistics, returns management, waste management, or manufacturing environments
  • Deep knowledge of reverse logistics processes, material specifications, transport, and recycling/reprocessing requirements
  • Strong negotiation, supplier relationship management, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with ERP/Procurement platforms (e.g., SAP, CRM) and data analytics tools
  • Ability to travel for supplier audits and site visits; valid driverโ€™s license preferred or as required
  • Knowledge of RCRA and DOT compliance is a plus or willingness to obtain training
